Happy Worldbuilding Wednesday! In the Devil's Waiters, what would the world be like if the twins had lost?
It's just bad. Luke and Lacie are trapped with the Devil while he has a much stronger grip.

First Paragraph Game
Thanks for the tag, @magic-is-something-we-create! The rules are to post the first paragraphs of my WIPs and choose my favorite, so...
Bride of Loki
The world was burning.
The fury of Ragnarok, the end of the world, was fierce. The sounds of war were loud, the flames of the battle lighting up the darkness. The wolf Fenrir had finally consumed the sun and the moon, hiding the snowy field in darkness. None of that bothered the couple.
Bad End
Sunshine, Oregon had the wrong name.
That was the first thought Mary Arden Ayres had. The entire sky was filled with dark storm clouds, the streets almost flooded with rain and fog. She stepped out of the car, feeling her hair immediately sink with water weight. "Here we are!" Her mom yelled from the other side, slamming her door. Mary Arden stopped tugging her hood over her mass of curls.
Heartbeat: Showtime
"Happy birthday Liza...happy birthday Liza...happy birthday to you!" It was dark, the candles being the only spot of light. The 10 on the cake was dark red. Liza couldn't stop smiling, even as her cheeks hurt.
The Devil’s Waiters
Once upon a time, there was a small corner of the world. In this small corner were three bridge connected islands. On one of these islands were a pair of twins named Luke and Lacie. They lived without care, deep in the woods, under the watchful eye of wise Old Man Pabbie.
Two Children and a Demon
Pi.
To most people, they thought of math or dessert. But to the small other half that knew the truth, it was a name that caused fear and terror. A name that inspired thoughts of circles and fire so dark it was white. It was a name that could send the worst creature running.
It was the name of a god, hiding behind the mask of a demon.
Who was currently sulking.
The Lady
The office was stained with ink, coming from dripping pipes. Most of the books on the bookshelves were warped to where you couldn't see their titles, although a few weren't legible at all. Diagrams of some sort of machine, stained with ink, had been pinned to the wall. It was all signs of a slow decay that had been happening for years.
Hell’s Studio
Grandma Laika had not been a popular woman in her lifetime.
Something had died in her, people said. It happened after Grandma Laika's father disappeared. It hadn't been helped that his job before the war had kept him away for long hours. It had split him from his wife. The war had kept himself up screaming. In any way, Laika Kalsky had not made any friends. She had been alone when she slipped away in her bedroom in her sleep. Her body had been a few hours cold when the maid she hired went into work and found her in bed, dead.
That explained why there weren't many people at the funeral.
Treasure Triplets
It was a beautiful day. The sun shone brightly in a blue summer sky. White puffy clouds drifted lazily across. It was perfect. “GET OFF OF ME!”
I’ll have to say my favorites are...Bride of Loki and Bad End. I enjoyed creating the mood with those words for the first one. The second one was just as fun, introducing both setting and main character.
I’ll tag, with no pressure, @andiwriteunderthemoon, @inkwell-attitude, @kosmosian-quills, @aelenko, @writingonesdreams, @myhusbandsasemni, @shattered-starrs, and @fields-of-ink.
Happy Storyteller Saturday! If the Devil has noticed Luke investigating the secrets of immortality, what is he going to do about it?
Who says it's an issue with him?
heya, happy WBW! what's up with the three islands in The Devil's Waiters?
The Devil created the world that The Devil's Waiters exists in, a world parallel to Earth, in his attempt to show that God wasn't special. The three islands are the main landmasses of the world. He chose to make three to mock the whole "Holy trinity".
Happy sts! :3
Is there any piece you'd like to share your thoughts about? 👀
I've realized I have a lot of things to say about the symbolism or details i included in a thing and why, so I assume others must, too.
I'm imagining Luke from the Devil's Waiters with a lot of Eve symbolism. What he hungers for most is knowledge, knowledge that regular mortals can't process or understand, similar to the apple that the Devil tempted Eve to eat.
Lacey, meanwhile, is more than willing to sell her soul again for her brother, even if that means her death.
Basically, the twins are on the opposite sides of the scale when it comes to the desire for knowledge and immortality.
Happy STS! Can you tell us a bit about a WIP or an individual character that you don't talk about as much as the others?
Luke hungers for knowledge. He hungers for knowledge off-limits to mortals. He wants immortality and access to that knowledge, to the point that he fails to notice important things.
Such as the Devil noticing.
Just out of curiosity...

Lacie
Soft jazz played through the office. Heart shrugged off his coat and placed it over his chair before heading over to the alcohol cabinet. “Want a drink?” he asked, grabbing two small shot glasses before she could answer. “I have something you’ll enjoy.”
She raised a brow as he pulled out what looked like a wine bottle with crimson liquid swishing inside.
"So, what is this exactly?" Lacie asked as he pulled out the cork.
"It's called Hell Wine." Heart poured the dark red alcohol into the two tiny shot glasses. There was the scent of strawberries and blackberries and what smelled like smoke. The color reminded her of blood. "It's made in the depths of Hell.” She raised a brow at the mention and he chuckled. “Don’t worry, it’s safe for mortals."
"Why are we drinking it out of shot glasses?"
"Because if we drank a bigger portion, it would be the hangover from Hell." He offered her a glass and she took it. "And I honestly don't trust you to not die of alcohol poisoning."
"I drink a perfectly healthy amount, thank you very much." Lacie took a tiny sip and then winced. The taste was so heavy and cloying that she couldn't figure out the actual taste. Then it cleared and there was warmth and…
Heaven.
Fresh berries, just plucked from the garden. Honey so sweet that her teeth ached. She remembered the village's harvest festival where the Veggie Trio would make apple cider and mead. (The twins always managed to get a sip of the latter.) It tasted like a mixture of those drinks. “You know, for something made in Hell, this is good!”
“I know, right?”
