If you judge a child, who wants to make new things and change the world, on their ability to remember the exact words a historic character once said in a certain date they have to remember, the child will forever believe they are inadequate.

And if you don't think that's wrong, well... you're the wrong one.

School is actually full of smart people, yet they still somehow manage to make you feel and seem like a dumb idiot.

There's a poster somewhere in my school where it says, "No one will remember what shirt you wore, or how you styled your hair, or what earrings you decided to put on in fifty years. All that will be remembered is what you learned." Or something of that sort. But it also doesn't matter, to me, what x equaled that day, what data I collected from a plant, how many numbers a bar went up to, or what questions I answered. I won't remember what I learned. I had thrown it away in my mind to be forgotten forever.

Being educated has killed my desire to learn

My craving and thirst for knowledge

Yet still I yearn to be an educated person

And perhaps that it the saddest thing of all

How the educational system destroyed my love for reading.

Reading=Boring.

That's what the public school system has taught me and many others. I use to love to read, I once read 11 full length books in one month, the librarian thought I was lying when I said I was finishing them all. Then something changed, somewhere along the line I got to the point where I couldn't finish a book to save my life. I took all honors and AP class in high school and I was constantly give more and more books that I "had" to read, and then tested on ever. little. detail. 

Maybe it would have been different if the books they were forcing on us were actually good, but they weren't. They were the most boring, drawn out, predictable piles of over-rated vomit I have ever had the misfortune of reading. I assure you that is not hyperbole. So I started, perhaps subconsciously, to associate reading with boredom. The worst part is, I was so busy trying to get through all these mind-numbing things that I didn't have any time left over to read the books I actually wanted to read. 

Now that I have time, and I could read if I wanted to, I don't. I hate that! But when I think about "reading" my mind automatically goes to "uugh English class, boring.", maybe one day I'll find a book that'll get me outta that mind set. I just really wish it didn't have to be this way. We implant a negative stigma in our youths minds, and then wonder why no one reads. Why half the population doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're". *sigh* I don't know where I'm going with this.
