cottonwood by the forgetmenauts is quite possibly the best song in the universe because for the first 50 seconds you’re just wondering what direction it could possibly go in since all of the lines are wildly different (what do you mean hummingbirds and bayonets sound the same. hello) and then finally you’re like Ah. I See. this is about being gay and repressed and regretting the missed opportunity to make out with a guy. but NOPE! turns out his boyfriend FUCKING DIED. FUCK YOU. and then it turns out it’s a song about selling your soul to the devil to see your partner again. and it’s fucking amazing also
