Big question,but do you think Finn would have told Rae about what happened with him and Katie if Rae had never walked in on them?

*big sigh* I’m not sure.

I was thinking the other day, and might have put these thoughts into the tag. I don’t like to think about series 3 and try to apply ficcer’s logic to it, because most of it was too terrible to deserve that. If they don’t want to keep the characters in character or provide even cursory explanations for the shit that went down, why should I waste my energy doing it for them?

That being said, I wonder if the so-called kiss with Katie happened before Rae showed up, or after? Part of me thinks that Finn might have felt so defeated and shitty after Rae showed up, he saw her hands, and knew that he might have been the cause of them, at least in part. He saw the look in her eyes when Katie was in there, and maybe akin to Rae going to Liam’s in series 2, he subconsciously thought, “I’ll punish myself with Katie.”

But Finn was so far out of character in series 3, this is probably a Evil Knievel style leap of logic I’m making over 17 city buses and a canyon. :/

I guess what I’m saying is that if Rae had never walked in on them, Katie probably would have made damn sure that Rae knew that she’d seen Finn; and even if they hadn’t kissed, Katie would have made it sound like she’d comforted him in some way, comforted him because Rae had made him feel bad. So, she would have found out something had gone on, whether Finn ‘confessed’ to her or not.

I'm so tired of seeing people who liked s3 side-eyeing us who didn't like it claiming that being bitter about Rinn is not a valid reason. I have a dozen reasons for being dissatisfied with s3 and yes, Rinn happens to be one of them. Do these people not understand that this is literally the first if not only time we're seeing a love story about a fat girl (like us) and "fit" guy being so beautifully, respectfully and realistically portrayed on screen? Their love story was a beacon of hope. (1)

We might have been more accepting of their breakup if it was handled with as much care and respect as their build up was but that isn't the case here. Their lackluster conclusion gave me such a sense of disillusion & hopelessness. So many people look up to mmfd for hope about recovery, self-esteem, etc so why are we met with criticism for those of us looking up to mmfd for hope in the romantic field (amongst the other topics)? (2)

Rae's romantic life gave me hope (by the way I feel like a lot of people like to pretend that Rae's romantic life was not an important part of her life but just a side story and i'm like??? really?), so why am I not allowed to mourn the fact that the ending message I got from Rinn had a negative impact on me? Am I not allowed to feel hurt by how disappointing their demise was written? I know there's always fanfiction but canon is canon and when I'll rewatch the show, this is their real ending. (3)

I know this must sound cheesy, but I feel very honored to be someone that people feel comfortable ranting to. So, thank YOU for the ask.

I agree with all of the above. I think I’ve said before that because they kept giving the relationship between Rae and Finn shorter and shorter shrift, it made us focus on it more, wondering why things were falling apart, since we weren’t getting many clues from the show or dialogue. This relationship was a first, and had the potential to be so much more than it ended up being, WITHOUT eclipsing the other parts of the show.

It was almost like “Hey, shit happens” was a main message of the show. That circumstances can never be overcome by talking or patterns broken with the help of therapy. But the first two series gave us much more satisfying (and open-ended) conclusions, along with messages of hope.

In my case, I really haven’t been moved to write any fanfiction to fix the events of Series 3 because I kind of can’t believe they actually happened. I’ll still write fanfic, but I haven’t yet figured out how I’ll incorporate or acknowledge the events of Series 3, or if I’ll just ignore them for all time.

So you don't have any headcanons for what happens to them after series 3?

I have another ask in my inbox on this topic and I’ve been mulling it over. It’s much harder for me to form thoughts about where Rae (and possibly Rae and Finn) from Series 3 end up. I’ll have to muse on it a little longer … I think the series has somehow blocked my brainwaves on this topic.

So do you still ship The Frae even after what they did to them in series 3?

I do. Absolutely. Of course I do! I have, like, eight fics in some stage of progress where they are in love or falling in love or pretending that they aren’t in love but are really so in love.

I think the difference for me is . . . Series 1 has the this gap. And we had to fill that in to make sense. And Series 2 has these breaks. And we had to fix what was broken to feel whole.

But Series 3 took a leap too far. Based on what we see in Series 3, I can’t begin to imagine what Finn and Rae’s relationship was for the previous 18 months. And they break almost immediately, without a truly plausible reason. There were plausible reasons, but they didn’t use those. So, the Frae as we see them in Series 3, I don’t know what they are, or if they could be anything in future. I’ll have to set my fics in AUs or pre-Series 3, but I believe in those characters and their genuine chemistry.

Rae Earl and Finn Nelson are young and stupid and mixed up and don’t talk to each other enough, but they love each other. Fundamentally and without question. Whether that love lasts or is to. be. continued. Well . . . now that’s up to us.

finales have always been good for finn and rae and honestly, i do want them together by the end of the episode because why shouldn't she get her finn? it's the last thing we'll ever see of mmfd and i think it would only be right after three seasons of their relationship for them to be back together.

If it feels right, sure. I just think they have major communication problems that really need to be addressed. I want Rae to be able to be more truthful to herself and those closest to her. Finn included, but not only him.

I write stories about Rae and Finn, but in canon, I care more about Rae being okay than fulfilling a romantic role model. I know that we love what Rae and Finn represent, but if it’s just a shell masking a broken relationship, that’s not good enough for me. I want her to believe that Finn loves her, but not as much as I want her to believe that she’s perfect as she is, with or without him.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned as i’m a bit out of the loop in the fandom at the moment, but I am freaking out, cause I’ve just seen a trailer for mmfd on E4 that had an added scene in it that wasn’t in the one on youtube. It’s when Finn and Rae are gazing at each other whilst Finn’s wrapped up in the duvet and he’s looking at Rae as he says ‘I love you’. (I’m not ashamed to say that I rewound it to watch it again not once but twice)
