The New Mastersounds were lit last night in Wash DC
A PALIMPSEST : Back to our own work. Baldwin Locomotive Works, the world's largest manufacturer of steam locomotives, extended over multiple blocks of Philadelphia at Broad and Spring Garden. In the 1930's the blocks were cleared, and the Philadelphia Inquirer built a garage and paper storage warehouse on the Hamilton site. Trains unloaded paper in a shed at the lower level of the then still extant railroad tracks. The rail shed remains, but the Hamilton apartments now occupy the site, reusing the paper warehouse and lower garage levels.
