so. the killer within trailer just dropped. the first chessboard is fine, a standard 8x8 grid.
how peaceful. nothing weird here. the extra black egdes are a bit off, but i can accept it as decoration. this board also appears later in the trailer during "play as L and the investigators".

boards like these are used in, among us others, in the netherlands, poland, ghana, argentina and italy. while the game is sometimes called draughts or damme etc., it's fundamentally the same game with some differences between countries. like i've said before, the 8x8 boards are interchangeable, but chess and checkers have notable differences. chess can only be played on an 8x8 board, because there are always 2 bishops, 2 knights, 2 rooks, 1 king and 1 queen.
so what happened here?
i don't know much about making 3d models, but i assume these are assets. they modeled one correctly and then presumably made a second bigger one to make this scene look better with more space being taken by the board. or they made this first and someone else made the board for the beginning of the trailer.
why? who the hell knows. to torment me specifically, i think, but to also vindicate me.
luckily, there are only three scenes where any kind of black and white grid shows up so-

In my ideal show, Carol would be in the Immortal 6! She sure as hell deserves it, after all she has endured and suffered through on the show IMO.
When Bestrafen (remember him?) and I started using that phrase to describe certain characters, we based it upon who got the most story, the most interesting story and the fact that Carl was Rick’s son.
Robert Kirkman himself has said that Carl is the future”. So he is safe as the most likely to survive the series finale IMO. Judith as a toddler is too much a wildcard, since raising a child to adulthood in teh ZA is a long shot.
“ Carl was "one of the most fun characters to tell stories about in this world."[6] He continued: "It's true of the comic and it's true of the show. Over time, we’re going to start to see more and more of this kid...But to have barely even really recognized what the world is and how it works and what to expect and then to be thrust into this apocalyptic threat and to grow up and mature with these kinds of situations. It's going to make him grow up weird, is what I like to say."
Rick as the lead is obvious. I think he will last until the last few episodes of the last season, dying most likely in the finale and leaving Carl to walk away alive and ready to lead his group into the future.
Daryl as the created for the show, designed to be a fan favorite holds the position of right-hand man (in the comic, Glenn, Shane, Tyreese, Morgan and Abraham shared that position in Rick’s life) and “brother” is also obvious.
Daryl gets the best kills, including using twice in one episode the rocket launcher which Abe found and had the actual skills to use. He gets great escapes like using the filing cabinet in season 4 to block bullets during the prison attack and also using walker bodies to shield himself from harm. He got to kill the tank with a grenade, although that would have been an amazing kill for almost any other character.
Norman Reedus plays Daryl very well using his physicality often to convey Daryl’s emotional state.
I sometimes think Rick might die before Daryl in the series.
Michonne is talented and also Robert Kirkman’s favorite female character. She is strong, fierce, loving, smart, wise, and played by the phenomenal Danai Gurira. I think Michonne will last for a long , long time on the show and no, I do not think she will get the comic Andrea death btw. IF she goes, it will likely be in a heroic fashion, in a season finale, but I think she will be alive for Carl if Rick should die.
Michonne is Carl’s mother, Rick’s wife and I believe that the show will take Richonne further than Rick and Andrea got in the comic, possibly involving a wedding, children etc. They are married for all intents and purposes and I think the show would go there, finally giving viewers a real wedding on the show once All Out War (AOW) has been won. Raise your hand if you want to see a Richonne wedding some season!
Maggie has joined the Immortals recently, after the death of Glenn and her pregnancy propelled her into the safe group. In season 7, Rick, Michonne, Sasha and Abraham all proclaimed Maggie was “carrying the future” with her baby, which is significant.
The season 78 finale show us that Sasha and Abe bickered over helping Maggie get to Hilltop to see the doctor which led them right into Negan’s lineup. In the end, they were part of the group and so Abe and Glenn, who had already been captured, died at Negan’s hand.
As a leader first at ASZ briefly and later at Hilltop, Maggie has miraculously gained the trust of all the residents beyond Gregory, seemingly. No one on screen has asked who she is or why they should follow her. They just fell into line, no questions asked.
Maggie leads them and has only made one mistake so far- the same mistake Rick! They agreed with Gregory to take on The Saviors and Negan without doing any background work to see who they would be dealing with and their arrogance in doing so cost the group everything.
Maggie has been right otherwise, with Rick coming around to her view late in the season that Negan and The Saviors must be destroyed. In the season 7 finale, Maggie ignores Rick instructions to stay safe with her group at Hilltop and she brings her people to the ASZ< helping win the first battle with Negan’s forces.
The Hilltop arrivals, with Maggie leading them and fighting as fiercely as any non-pregnant soldier in all the communities, coincided with the arrival of Carol and the Kingdom forces, just when Rick and Carl were about to die.
So Maggie was right, again and as a political leader has made no other major mistakes. Maggie was included in the finale montage on equal footing with Rick and King Ezekiel and had the voiceover with her homage to Glenn ending the season.
The new emphasis on Maggie after Glenn’s death, has added her to the Immortals IMO now and in the future.
By now, you ae reading this thinking “Ripley what does any of this have to do with Carol and why isn’t she on your list?’ Fair question. :)
What keeps Carol off of my list is the continued choice by TPTB over multiple seasons to not show Carol on screen as regularly as the Immortal 5. She was absent for more of season 4 than she appeared and fans joke now about getting used to her being gone or ignored in part of every season.
Her storyline of emotional suffering, pain and heroic courage are great and many fans adore Carol, especially “badass Carol” as we see all over social media.Her memorable appearances in ‘No Sanctuary’ (highest rated episode of the series), ‘JSS’, ‘The Same Boat’, and others are among th4e most liked of the series in later seasons.
The choice the writers and Scott Gimple made to push Carol into so much angst and wanting to leave the group, was a very poor one IMO. By forcing so much tragic story, heroics and isolation upon Carol, she has become strong, but also weighed down by the weight of the choices she has made and actions she has had to take.

The apocalypse didn't make her strong. The apocalypse made her show herself that she's strong." He then said, "When we got to Season 4, she had become pro-active. Despite her wonderful and heartbreaking journey from “mouse” as Merle called her to a heroine, the show considered killing off Carol in ‘The Killer Within”. Last minute intervention from Sarah Wayne Callies and others kept Carol alive.
There mere fact that Carol was on the chopping block under then showrunner Glenn Mazzara, is a concerning sign as far as the character is concerned.
Her appearances are memorable, but she is not given, in the Gimple era of bottle episodes, as much to do as we fans might like. Melissa McBride is continually praised for her performances as Carol and is also a fan favorite cast member.
I feel TPTB, the writers and Gimple have underused/misused the Carol character in many ways. Rosita getting more screen time than Carol in season 7 for instance, is just one example of that. Tara got a bottle episode, but Glenn never had one nor much backstory, so the show has made some poor choices in order to save money by having bottle episodes so often. Carol has suffered as a result.
When Danai Gurira was caught up in in wonderful play on Broadway and with all the Tony-related appearances she made, we did not see much of Michonne on screen. That was difference than our regularly not seeing Carol on screen.
Some heroes and heroines have tragic stories and journies, which seems to be Carol’s path much more than say Daryl’s path. Let us see more of Carol and see her not written into a corner or used to pair up with Morgan to give that character some credibility. TPTB have teased Caryl for years, let’s see them seal the deal and that will shift Carol’s dynamic IMO.
Let’s see Carol not used to sell a new community to viewers, give her something other than simply all the personal tragedy storylines, and then I will feel confident adding her to the Immortals.
