Earths Economy and Kyra’s wealth
Kyra has family that used to be independently wealthy, and she is aware that over 1000 years ago her family were landowners, but her branch did not continue this, the Aruson branch did so. For those who follow my main blog @creationsincarnate as well, Snow did become the head of their family dynamic but did not take over the landowner responsibility her grandfather had because her own mother had n interest in it and she had t watch over Loki, though Snow’s cousin and 2nd in command Elizabeth did and they kept it and the last name Aruson. Due too inflation and Americas economy going into a huge depression at least 5 times, the Aruson branch lost quite a bit of land (sold much of it off completely to tenets to both help them out when needed but also to better pay their own bills during the depressions) and while still being upper middle class now, that financial statues doesn’t say much anymore and is barely better than regular middle class.
Kyra’s family itself is strictly middle class though deemed as lucky as they own a 3-story townhouse, have kept their home for over 1000 years, and don’t have to pay it off. The only reason they have home loans is because her grandmother took out a bank loan to fix it up and bring the lower floor’s book store to the modern age and include download areas for holograms and other electric means of entertainment, as well as fix any problems in the upper living floors. They do not own electric nor flying cars due to the expense of those devices, only one gas car (an old HHR model) and anyone who can’t use the car using the train or the ground gas-buses rather than the more Eco-friendly and air-friendly pilot buses that run on tracks about 50 feet in the air. Both ground and air roadways have traffic due to overpopulation, and it is believed that air-roadways were developed largely to cut down on ground traffic, though having access to this travel method is incredibly expensive.
Millionaires are only considered simply rich in this age, and even buying air masks to breath outside of the home is easily $700 dollars (about 544.96 Pounds or 601.76 Euros) and god help those who lose theirs or their in home air-converters break down. People can take out loans, but it only increases the mass debt the people are in. America may have finally paid off its own debt, but in doing so it put its people in a debt that is massively difficult too get out of.
Kyra herself has actually reached a wealthy statues simply because she went to Gaia on a NASA funded mission. NASA offered a large wage to entice the younger generations to go, both to make them stop making a ruckus abut not helping the planet they had colonized almost a decade prior but also to make people sign up due to a promise to be risen out of their financial hardships. NASA did not expect anyone to succeed and did not expect to actually need to pay them. They gave Kyra and her friend Christo (who had joined as a secondary engineer) a direct deposit and, if they were back on Earth more often and lived there full time, their now life-long wage for that successful mission would have bumped them to simply upper middle class, but because they have both chosen to live on Gaia it adds up and instead makes them fairly wealthy due those wages being relatively untouched. Kyra herself is vaguely aware of her new financial, and while she gave her family permission to use her wages to pay off their debts her mother and father have rarely touched it as well. Christs parents received the same permission from him and have thus far only touched his wages to relive themselves from their own debts gathered from fixing their air-converters and to buy a new air-converter guaranteed to not break down as often. Otherwise they have been untouched, leaving Christo fairly wealthy back on Earth as well.
Things I have learned I need to change in my book:
1) I need to cut Anya. As much as I love her, I realize now that I'm 13 chapters or more in she's woefully underdeveloped and her coming in in the middle isn't going to give her enough time to grow. The story is also very heavily a Kyra growth story, so switching perspectives to Anya who is already developed as a character is going to undercut that. Anya is now on the backburner for a future story. I also haven't developed her here so probably no one knows who she is, but I'm still sorry to see her go and want to figure out a better story for her where she'll shine better.
2) Kyra is going to just straight up speak old English. It makes more sense that she would know it due to living with Loki her entire life. She just doesn't break it out very often.
Kyra has a large capacity to be scary or downright terrifying when pushed too far. Her people playing behavior and lack of thinking ahead/ trusting nature is what holds her back from being as terrifying as she could be.
Insulting her intelligence is the fastest way to Pidge her into scary nature territory.
New body headcanon derived from writing her book:
Kyra has a scar on her left shoulder, derived from when she stopped the Koriackri and got ran through the shoulder with a brambles branch. It's not a pretty thing, and she tends to cover it with make up or clothes. Since it is visible on both sides of her shoulder (because it went through her shoulder completely and came out the other side) she usually tends to use clothes to cover it. It was tended to within 2 hours of the event and she was kept from bleeding out, and healed by magic over the next week. That and her weak right ankle are the results of her first year on Gaia and the events during that time.
Reckless
So while Kyra isn’t in a mood/position to RP (I’ve been writing her book again in short bursts so I have her from book 1, aka 3 years prior to this blogs setting, stuck in my head so I’ve been finding it hard to come back to her while she’s in that state in my head while I also have another strong muse on another blog) I will try posting some stuff I re-learn or learn how to articulate better while I write so this blog isn’t so dead.
So one thing that’s probably easy to notice but I don’t think I’ve articulated: Kyra isn’t stupid, she’s actually very smart, but she also has a habit of putting herself into extremely dangerous situations. EX: A friend of hers is possessed by an angry dryad and can spread this possession to others with a minor injury, and she’ll go to try and comfort them when she sees her friend pop out.
This is usually because she is trying to help other people and trying to be useful and the thought of her own safety is just a small detail to her compared to what she can achieve from walking straight into the mouth of danger. This doesn’t make her particularly brave either though, because she just as often doesn’t see the full extent of the danger she’s going into until she either walks back out only minorly scathed, or she gets DRAGGED out by someone else and stops kicking and screaming enough to see what position she put herself in.
It’s a combo of having a big heart, some low-self-worth, as well as an extreme trust in luck and how things will turn out ok. She is working on the self-worth thing, but the chaotic energy about her that makes her look at danger and say “fuck it I’ve gotta get this thing done NOW” isn’t something she really recognizes and probably never will. It’s the most infuriating thing to her friends as well, because it’s the biggest reason for why she will do reckless things, she recognizes that things can get go sideways with a chaotic aspect and can prep a bit for it, but she’ll also always trust that the chaotic aspect will go her way and she’ll live. Which is what happens, but it also happens because she has people who care about her dragging her the hell out too.
It’s not really a good trait, but it is a trait she has. It’s more a neutral one that can go either way, especially as her work to increase her own self-worth makes her smarter about it, but doesn’t stop her from doing these things either.

Ikol (aka Loki): Kyra, what do we do when we meet a strange wolf?
Kyra: Pet it and love it.
Ikol: And if its aggressive?
Kyra: Give it a treat, like some jerky.
Ikol: What if you meet Fenrir?
Kyra: unchain the good boy, give him a treat, and take him on a desperately needed walk.
Every sane person that knows Kyra: KYRA NO!!!!
Ikol and Kyra: Kyra yes.
