Led by vocalist David Thomas, Pere Ubu (Moon Unit) is a project that aims to reshape songs from Pere Ubu's catalog and introduce new material and works in progress. An avant-garde art rock band, Pere Ubu has been active since 1975 and is one of the most innovative independent rock bands along with the Residents.
The Moon Unit, like its conceptual predecessor, David Thomas and the Two Pale Boys, relies on improvisation "without the plinky-plonk indulgence that gives improvisation a bad name" to expand the band's possibilities.
The Moon Unit consists of David Thomas (vocals), Keith Moliné (guitar), Gagarin (electronics), Alex Ward (clarinet, guitar) and occasionally the elusive Jack (theremin).
