The Overthrow trilogy is honestly taking a lot of cues from Animorphs, and I really love it? The theme of being constantly conflicted about alien changes to your own body, moral conflict over how to operate in a world divided by war (when you kinda belong to both sides!), big creppy alien things! It's just ✨delicious✨.

throw back to the 6th grade where I was reading a book for honors english (the overthrow trilogy by kenneth oppel) and they just really casually threw in a character (one of the aliens but still ig. Petra (one of the human/hybrid main characters) was the one to give xem xir pronouns) with xe/xir pronouns. I think it is briefly questioned when Petra tells the military about xem using xir pronouns, and the Alien mightve asked about it when she talked to xem, but other than those two instances (which happen in book two, Hatch i think) xir pronouns are never directly talked about again (as in still used and stuff)
