don't get me wrong i am also anti ai but i don't understand how people are missing/willfully ignoring the fact that oscar is under contract to fulfill sponsorship obligations with companies that work with mclaren regardless of if he personally agrees with them or not. the t shirt was part of a campaign that started months ago. people begged to buy the shirt in the comment section. google ran with that and due to his contract oscar is forced to sell it.
i'm not sure if people just don't know how much sway big sponsors like google have over f1 teams or if they've forgotten that at the end of the day oscar is an employee of the company and therefore has to do what his bosses tell him to but he really doesn't have a choice when it comes to what the sponsors want. as long as mclaren agrees to it his hands are tied.
i won't be buying the shirt because i'd prefer to spend my money on his actual merch instead, but i think hating on him or criticising him personally as if he actually had any say in this shows a lack of understanding on a) how little control the drivers actually have when it comes to the team's marketing, and b) how much power big sponsors who provide a lot of money to the teams have over the decisions the team makes. you can be annoyed that mclaren took on an ai sponsor to begin with or that they okayed this but blaming the individual drivers for fulfilling their contracts is silly.
