My live thoughts on the Suits season 3 finale e15-16 below, except I’m reading the subtext with eyeballs because it’s RIGHT THERE (I wrote this scene by scene essentially). Spoilers below:
Donna is HIGHKEY the #1 Marvey Shipper the whole time Mike is trying leave 😭 “I wasn’t talking about the IPO I was talking about how you’re feeling about Mike”
WHEN SHE TELLS HARVEY TO NOT TELL SCOTTIE 😭😭😭 “someone who keeps finding a reason to be pissed at you” AND THEN MIKE PULLS UP THE SECOND AFTER TO SAY HE’S STAYING. This show just loves to juxtapose Mike and Harvey’s tumultuous relationships w their respective girlfriends with their seemingly unwavering loyalty for each other ALL THE TIME. It’s an every episode thing. Just fucking kiss already Jesus Christ.
“I want you to be happy. Just isn’t up to me to decide what that means. Now are we gonna drink to Mike staying or what! 😛” Donna could you BE any more obvious. After Harvey basically just chose Mike>his girlfriend
(Side note from future me: It’s not just Donna either, everyyyyone in these two episodes seemed to feel the need to point out just how much Mike and Harvey ✨care✨ about each other. Jessica, Rachel, Scottie, even Louis and the US attorney point it out. To be fair both of them were being gay as hell these episodes. Case in point:)- Mike saying “I’m not ready to leave yet” when LITERALLY THE ONLY THING he’s not ready to leave is Harvey and doing a good job as his protege 😭 he could objectively be more successful as an investment banker, be surrounded by the same level of intelligence and challenge AND get more recognition for it, and very importantly, make his girlfriend happy and secure their future together. Literally the ONLY reason he chooses to stay is for the love of the game (and the game is being Harvey’s guy…)
EPISODE 16
AND OF COURSEEEE THIS ALL GOES TO SHIT IN THE FIRST 6 MINUTES OF THIS EPISODE! (but not the worst it could be I guess!). Harvey busting down the US attorney’s door w “Harvey Specter I represent Mike Ross 😠”
Rachel reads ts out of Mike too: “if you weren’t working here they wouldn’t be able to use your relationship with Harvey as leverage” EGEHHEHAH, transcribed more of this convo between them because good lord:
“you think I would turn my back on him even if I wasn’t working here??”
“I don’t think you’d ever turn your back on Harvey, that’s the problem”
“what does that mean?”
“Harvey wanted you to stay, I wanted you to leave. You chose to stay, so your priorities seem pretty clear to me.” girl. They are PLAYING IN MY FUCKING FACE. This speaks for itself i don’t need to add anything else. (Future me: and the ONLY reason Mike does end up leaving at the end of the season is because he doesn’t want to end up pointing the finger at Harvey if he chooses to stay. He literally could not give less of a fuck about his own girlfriend. Rachel go find a better man pls, this one is occupied evidently. She deserves better lmao).
HARVEY ESSENTIALLY BREAKING UP WITH SCOTTIE BECAUSE HE CARES. ABOUT MIKE. AND THEIR SECRET. TOO MUCH. I’m telling you the juxtaposition left and fucking right is enough to give anyone whiplash.
Also “you pointed your gun at my guy, doesn’t matter if you meant to shoot it but it went off” when he’s beefing w Quelling
Also interlude: the scene of Harold and Mike absolutely riffing during questioning in the US attorneys office w the exact same story is so excellent, like GO HAROLD!!! THATS MY LAWYER!!! (Future me: and then he almost breaks but he’s still my guy, I love Harold and I love when they let him be a good lawyer)
Donna saying that Harvey taking on Mike as his protege made him a better person. Hmm.
HARVEY COMING INTO THE QUESTIONING ROOM for Mike: “If you wanted some me time all you had to do was ask” and then they get freaky right? Right???
“Harvey I don’t care what Harold gives them on me, I’m not giving them you”. Then Harvey immediately going into a tale about his mom’s infidelity. Then they immediately launch into a full blown argument about who should take the fall (gay gay gay gay gay Jesus H Christ). HARVEY SMASHING THE CAMERA ARE YOU JOKING RIGHT NOW 😭😭😭 Meanwhile the whole time I knewww Harold was getting Litt Up™ in the other room. (“Hey Mike what’s up 😁” when he comes back in lmfao)
Finally at the end. Mike leaving. Becoming Harvey’s client basically. Harvey offering to take him out to dinner one more time and Mike basically saying “not the last time ☺️☺️ we’ll have many dinners 🥰🥰 but not as boss and employee this time wink wink nudge nudge call me sir 😇😇”.
Anyways, Mike better be back in T-5 minutes next season or I’m gonna be pissed. Gonna take a break from watching in order to write a fanfic about this exact moment in the series. If I do it before I continue the show, I can make a beautiful fantasy land with no canon influence on my psyche past this season finale :) it will be glorious.
