Another one of those music videos where a friend’s band comes through town, and we decided to film a music video spontaneously. Whenever I don’t have an idea for a video, I usually just run to Party City and walk around for 20 minutes and buy whatever looks like it could be interesting to play with.

At some point in his or her life, every artist goes to an open mic night. It’s a rite of passage – sometimes wonderful, sometimes miserable, but every time helping the artist grow and change. But what do you do when your artistic journey begins before you even hit puberty?
Ask Emma and Isaac, also known as punk rock duo The Potential Lunatics. These kids formed their band five years ago, when they were 12 and 10, respectively, and their experience of open mics involved – to quote Emma – “a lot of creepy people.”
But you can’t keep a good punk down, and Emma and Isaac are among the best. They quickly developed Teenage Shenanigans Open Mic, an open mic night with only one rule – you have to be a teen to perform. The band says this offers kids a safe environment to showcase their talent, without the intimidation of “creepy” adults – and given the plethora of young talent we’ve seen in SoCal, we are all kinds of behind this idea!
This month, TSOM will be hosted at Sam Ash Music in Cerritos. The event is free, and the audience is open to all ages, so come on down and check out the next generation of talent. Here’s everything you need to know:
