Hartford artists can join Meek Mills, French Montana, Brother Ali, and Saigon...

On Thursday, March 29 (2012) unsigned artists have a rare opportunity to perform at CT's Future King showcase & Open Mic, thanks to a collaboration between Hartford's favorite showcase host and the city's number one venue for major Hip-Hop acts. As host of the city's longest running free open mic series, the RapOet was asked to create a showcase for Sanctuary. This win-win situation allows the venue, usually reserved for major recording artists like Lil Wayne, Meek Mills, and French Montana, to connect with the best of CT's local talents, before they are discovered by mainstream media.

On the other hand, Self Sufice sees the Sanctuary showcase as a natural bridge between hosting monthly headliners (most recently Cormega and Sean Price), and weekly novices (at the free Open Mic on Wednesdays). This bridge allows artists who have honed their performance skills at the Free Open Mic to practice building a fanbase, promoting a new release, auditioning to feature, and arranging a setlist. Most importantly, the Future King Showcase & Open Mic provides networking for previous features (such as Klokwize and now Bvgatti - who have gone on to release albums, pack venues, and perform on college tours) to connect with upcoming artists who will most likely be able to perform better outside of CT, being plugged in to this very supportive community of Hartford tastemakers, such as DJ Meechie, Easaleo, Self Suffice and others. On March 29, artists who come to the Future King Showcase & Open Mic at Sanctuary will be scouted as potential performers for a showcase at the 7th International Hip-Hop Festival (occuring on Saturday, March 31 and featuring Rhymesayers' Brother Ali), in addition to potentially headlining at the Future King Showcase if it continues to be successful. Following the March 29 Showcase at Sanctuary (Bvgatti and Pascal), and the March 31 Showcase for the International Hip-Hop Festival (Brother Ali and more), Just Blaze produced artist Saigon will be headlining at Sanctuary on April 21 (along with TapeDeck 1, Mic On Deck, and Self Suffice). The RapOet summed the venture up by saying, "Well the venue definitely has to entertain more naive, and less experienced artists than it's use to; while these artists have to invest more time, money, and commitment then they're usually called to as well, but if you've been on the scene in Hartford lately, you know the arts community has been coming together for mutual success more than ever before... so there's a really good chance that this showcase will be successful.
