RapOetry at New Haven Family Alliance

I want to send a shout to the talented, thoughtful, and inspiring young men and women who joined my workshop today at the New Haven Family Alliance, as well as the dedicated - and INVOLVED - staff!

Some of the powerful words they expressed were:

E'ybody like me cause I'm popular................ People actually LISTEN to me.

I'll be there for you.................... At 4AM, I was asleep in my King Sized bed, dreaming of a brighter day, but cause of you, I got out my sleep and came across town - for you!

Society feels like prison................ the KEY lies within your soul.

You frontin'............................... You're the only one that stayed this long.

I’ll be yo branch

Until ya ready da fly

I will be yo branch

… But I won’t lie

If you can take a chance

You might fly so high

Cause I WILL BE yo branch

But I would rather fly beside you, Up in the sky

Talkin’ to my friend, just the other day/ She said I don’t care, what the others say cause I could do it natural, or put it in a afro, or cut it bald/ I said, “Cool, why don’t you…”, but she didn’t have an answer yall

Talkin’ to my friend, just the other day/ She said I don’t care, what the others say I don’t need ta wear high heels/ or need ta wear makeup, because you know I’m real/ I said, “I hear what ya SAY but/ every mornin’ still see ya put ‘em on when ya wake up
