blaisie de manseauguel x the parables of saint daniffen.
(XIV||20): 2. Sway.
“Come on, Anne-Sophie!” hissed Millicent, her only other Hyuran classmate at the Scholasticate. “Halone’s tears, for someone who is so afraid of getting caught, you certainly seem determined to make sure we are!”
“R-right! Sorry!” Anne-Sophie squeaked in reply, rounding the corner of the dormitory in her stocking-feet, boots held tightly in her left hand. Once the two girls were some yalms away from the dimly-lit building, they paused, lacing up their boots as they listened nervously for some sign that they’d been seen. When none was forthcoming, they wove their way through the back alleyways of the Pillars, travelling a route known to all the native children of the city, regardless of the circumstances of their birth. So it was that Millicent--she would not allow anyone to call her Millie, which, of course, only ensured that everyone did just that---born of the Brume to disgraced merchants, and Anne-Sophie, middle daughter of House Bale, made their way as equals, partners in crime on their way to a party at House Dzemael.
“We did it!” Millie crowed, far too loudly; it was Anne-Sophie’s turn to hiss “shhhhh!” Taking a moment to straighten their hair, catch their breath, adjust their light late-summer gowns, they proceeded with heads held high to the side door of the manor, just as instructed. From within, the sounds of music, laughter, and clinking cutlery could be heard. Just as Millie was preparing to knock---she was always the braver of the two, with Anne-Sophie trailing gratefully in her bolder friend’s shadow---the nearby window burst open and a slender figure leaned across the casement, vomiting into the hedges loudly and repeatedly. From inside the manor came loud jeering and teasing, the festivities allowed this narrow passageway into the cool evening air from within the heavy stone walls. Anne-Sophie took a few steps backwards, unsteady on her feet. “U-uhm...on second thought...Millie...I don’t quite feel well. I’m heading back to the dorms okay havealovelynightgoodbye!” The redheaded girl turned on her heel and was off down the alleyways once more, ignoring Millie’s irritated yelling, inwardly cursing herself for her meekness. She would try again, definitely, most certainly. Just...not tonight.
