Were you missing The Shna? We did miss them a lot! Separated by a good chunk of kilometers and actives individually with Granadeze (Alma) and Pieuvre (Lina), The Shna are working on new material and we are very exited to hear it!!! 

Catch them this coming Saturday (17.09) at Stauffe in Dresden or next Sunday (25.09) in the always excellent Bilderberg Conferenz, in Reichenberberstrasse 114 in Berlin. Both shows will be in the afternoon!!

Ein stimmungsvoller Fingerstyle zu hypnotisch kreisenden Drumbeats, melodischer Gesang, untermalt von sägendem Lärm. Eine stark verfremdete Frauenstimme, stop and go, ragt aus dem Chaos eines kaum noch rhythmischen Gedresches. Federnder Groove, zu knarzbassig für schnöden Indierock. Dazu Texte, die immer wieder um Längen morbider und konfrontativer sind, als es die netten Songtitel – „Flowers“, „Loveletters“, „Fairytales“, „Starglide“ – suggerieren.

Wer der Meinung ist, dass die alten Riot Grrl-Tage von Babes in Toyland und ähnlichen Combos längst mal wieder neu anbrechen sollten und die (ebenfalls großartigen) Vivian Void zu poppig findet, ist bei dem mit Schlagzeug, Bass und Mikro bewaffneten Duo mit dem einprägsamen Namen The Shna an der richtigen Adresse. Auf ihrem „Fairytape“ reihen sich eine knappe halbe Stunde lang rauschende Funkenflüge, noisiges Knarren und Rumpeln und wechselseitiger, aber immer abenteuerlustiger Gesang aneinander. Mut zu Lofi ist reichlich vorhanden, und am stärksten sind die beiden gerade dann, wenn sie sich selbst nicht allzu ernst nehmen. Also eigentlich immer. Mein Anspieltipp ist das abschließende „Mammals and Techniques“, der einzige Livetrack des Albums, bei dem sich A Capella-Gesang nach Südseeart gegen eine wahre Cheerleaderparade aus martialischen Snaredrums durchsetzt – in ewigwährender, indifferenter Teuflischkeit, um es im Shna-Ton zu sagen.

Das Tape erschien bereits im März, doch man munkelt, dass von den sechzig fantasievoll beklebten Tapes noch ein paar zu haben sind. (A. Kaudaht)

[#] Brabrabra are on the line up of a fantastic festival in Berlin, called Synesthesie, that this year will have as line up the Spiritualized (yes, omg) and Soft Moon, plus a lot of others great bands including Jealous, a a truly impressive Berlin trio! https://www.8mmmusik.com/synfest
