Introduction
In this review I will be giving my opinion on a restaurant in Edinburgh called The Steading, I will be explaining the problems with this restaurant and why I do not recommend sacrificing your taste buds to their food.
Problems
9th of July we decided to go to the steading. A restaurant my parents dined at when they were in college, the steading has been open for roughly 20 years or more, so we booked a table for 3pm.
We arrived at our location at 2:30pm and proceeded into the restaurant, that’s when the problems started.
We were seated immediately which my parents did find odd as we booked the conservatory. For those who don’t know, the conservatory was the highly sought seating area.
So we were very surprised.
This area was empty and it wasn’t a surprise to find out why next.
When we were seated and ordered our drinks, we had a lovely view of the garden, however, we soon saw staff members come up to the conservatory to have lunch. Their uniforms were filthy, so were the dishcloths the chefs had with them, then we witnessed them putting their feet on the chairs, it was extremely of putting. That’s when we had started to notice how dirty the floors, curtains, tables and chairs where.
The waiter who was to take our order sat most of the time with his colleagues, by the time we received our starters it was already 3pm.
2 extremely salty and unedible potato and leek soup
1 lukewarm garlic mushrooms
1 cheddar cheese ( garlic bread! )
Now I didn’t eat the soup it was making me feel sick, and cheddar on garlic bread was wrong on so many levels. Every other establishment puts mozzarella on garlic bread, but hey-ho apparently this was their special!
What Happened Next?
We were waiting for the mains, however could not take anymore! Not only was the service terrible but the waiter failed to ask why I left a full bowl of soup!
We asked why there was cheddar cheese on the garlic bread saying ‘are you out of mozzarella?’
Were upon the said “No, it’s always served this way, it’s our special”
That was not the worse part, we did not mind the bar being dog friendly, however two girls took their dog out to do the toilet, it pooped and they never picked it up, it was right outside the conservatory window!
Feeling sick, I took to the women’s toilets, they were worse than anything! They smelt, there were flies, and toilet roll on the floor.
It could not get any worse!
We asked for the bill. £70-£80… we were shocked, we were not paying for things we had not eaten, we asked to speak with the manager, she arrived and listened to what was wrong, and apologised, it was clearly not the first complaint
She only charged us for our drinks which was £13
We got into the car shocked at the way this establishment was run!
What was once a wonderful eating experience, they would be better closing their doors!!
If you do plan on visiting scotland, please save your tastebuds and stomach and avoid this place.
Ratings and Quality
Hygiene is poor Customer service is poor Location is good Food quality is poor
The entire place needs renovation, and definitely new staff and a new owner, the steading is stuck in limbo. They need to realise those who come for a good family meal want not only brilliant food but brilliant service!
If I was to rate this place out of 10 it would be a big 0!
Overall The Steading is not a place you want to take your family to!
Avoid at All costs. This is definitely a place the environment of health wants to look into.
