In 1943, after his first season on the New York Yankees farm team “The Tars”, a 19-year-old Yogi Berra joined the United States Navy. On D-Day, The Yankees hero spent 10 straight days on a 36-foot “Rocket Boat” off of Omaha beach, providing covering fire in support of the allied invasion.
