Dream # ∞
I've been dreaming of another home.
Why am I back in high school? I'm in my 20s! I shouldn't be here! What a wacky, relatable subconscious circumstance.
I keep going back, though. A trip every month or so evolved until it seemed to be where I lived inside my dreams.
It came with its own continuity: my favourite nautical exploration-themed video game, that I played with my brother and does not exist in the reality I am from.
The high school has a new theatre, spacious and cozy, without the duct taped curtains I remember. They even partnered with the town to build a little natural history museum for school and public use. The cafeteria’s curly fries are still delicious.
There is a building near my mother's shop that became a small strip mall, filled with hand-made clothing stores and artsy knicknacks, soapstone and copper earrings. I know it as a furniture store in the waking world, but I kind of like these stores better.
I work at my mom's store, when I am not at school. Often my mom drives me there, and we stop by McDonalds for breakfast on the way. My friends from home are here, alongside figures of importance I recognize from now. I don't know if it's really them, or my brain using them as stand-ins for those whose faces I don't know well enough to remember.
I spend some time in the woods. They smell and they feel as they do in both worlds. There is so much sunlight here.
The largest difference is me. I am me but I am different. The fearful bundle of neuroses I remember being is instead a class clown, still with my own lot of friends but well-regarded by peers and teachers alike. People like me. I like myself. It’s a world where things had been addressed much differently.
Again and again. I go through life, the classes and work and friends and events. It's painfully boring and whenever I awaken I am unrested and disturbed. It keeps ahold of my mind even when I wake, unlike my far more fantastic dreamscapes that cannot survive more than a few seconds in the real world.
There's a sense of wrong weighting my mundane adventures that makes me wish I could end them. Nothing bad really happens but I do not want to be there. Every time, I have trespassed.
My dreams last night did not take place there, until they were taken there by force. But there was a difference this time, one that put this saga into a disturbing waking context. I was not simply stood in place of the me of my previous dreams: she had brought me there. Perhaps I'd been living her life as a teenager, and now she came to me as someone older than I am now... I think.
She had a cat instead of a dog, and while her house looked similar, in an alternate vision of where I live now, she lived alone. There was a scar on her eyebrow that looked like it was left behind by a piercing that had been torn out, putting into question my waking plans of getting one in the future. This one was a more familiar me: alone, quiet, cautious.
An older me like my younger me, where her younger me matched the me now. Duality is part of life but it should not come in fours.
The details blurred, but she told me or tried to show me that there was something wrong. Aliens? Another dimension? Or an unfortunate but natural entropy of that world's foundations? I do and don't wish I remembered the details. But I remember something she said, something I wish I'd asked the meaning to until I woke back up in the proper place.
She looked into the dream I had been having -- a dream that I was shopping for Halloween costumes, of course, surrounded by kids and friends, girls shopping for the coolest new costumes. A goofy, common dream that had been just a dream based on the world I knew.
With the slightest contented bittersweetness, she told me, "The girls here aren't like that."
I thought I was dreaming about a world that should not be. Now I'm awake, and afraid -- yet so, so curious to see -- that if the next time I sleep I will not dream at all, but be shown more memories of a world that may not be anymore.
my friend got a press pass and took me to see hudson taylor last night it was amazing the whereabouts and little hours were supporting too and they were so good i don't think ive ever been to a concert where i enjoyed the support just as much as the main act

Pardon my language, maar F***!
