I imagine that when Will first met Billy he was genuinely scared of him. When he heard what happened at his house in November from the party Billy gave him goosebumps.
The more the months passed he started picking up on hints. Max would say stuff about Billy’s dad, nothing explicit, but Will had been exposed to an abusive father before. He caught on.
By the time fourth of July passed Will was determined to become friends with Billy.
Billy would understand him in more ways than just the mindflayer.
He was still stuck in the hospital tied up to a bunch of tubes the first time Will decided to visit.
The first words out of Billy’s mouth were, “You really like mini Wheeler?” His breathing wasn’t steady and it was impressive that he was able to say the whole sentence in one breath.
But Will was way more shocked by the words that came out, not how he said it. Silence filled the room as Will racked through his brain to figure out how Billy would ever come to that conclusion.
Maybe he meant Nancy. He had seen Billy and Karen talking and Nancy was a mini wheeler so he definitely meant Nancy.
As Will opened his mouth to speak Billy spoke up again, “Y’know Lucas and Dustin would’ve been a much better option.”
No, Billy did not mean Nancy.
