I'm just getting around to reading the Christmas Lectures now (thank you - they are wonderful!) General question: If we're talking about doing something at a place, should a suffix indicating no object always be used? eg. "yuQDaq maghoS" or "yuQDaq wIghoS"? Apologies if it seems like an obvious question. Also, can we use -Daq to describe something that is in/on something but not a place, for example, "paqDaq", "qablIjDaq", "qorDu'Daq" etc? Or are there more appropriate ways to say these things?

You are correct. It is generally accepted that when the prefix indicates no object - jI-, bI-, ma-, Su- - the verb is interpreted as at a place, and if the prefix includes a third-person object, the interpretation is towards; for example, Qo'noSDaq mave' should read On Kronos, we travel with a purpose, whereas Qo'noSDaq wIve' should read We travel with a purpose towards Kronos.

We can use -Daq to locate something in or on an object, but it must refer to something physical. paqDaq can refer to something on the book or in the book, and qablIjDaq refers to on your face as much as to your face, as in qablIjDaq ghew mut moH tu'lu'. toH, lochlIj neH 'oH There is an ugly species of bug on your face. Ah, it's only your moustache! or DaH bItamchoHQo'chugh vaj qablIjDaq ve' ro'wIj If you don't shut up right now, my fist will travel with a purpose towards your face.

The -Daq suffix "can typically be used only for physical locations," per boQwI' and TKD. With verbs of directed violence such as baH and bach, the suffix -Daq can mark the target, though, even if the target is something like qorDu' - as long as it is a physical target, not some conceptual idea such as ruv justice.

Do you know that your Next/Previous page links are invisible (until you hover the mouse over them)? It took me a while to find them.

I'm always trying to find a decent style which works for my blog, but all of them seem to have this annoying mouse hover feature. And the ones I like all seem to be paid styles.

It's a learning process for me.

Damn, that was my best suggestion. I can't think of anything else other than the standard advice (eg. rest, drink water, etc). Hope you get well soon though! I got some kinda cold-from-hell too, so I feel your pain. :c

This is like the cold that won't leave. I first got a cold on Dec 17 (I know this because I could see my symptoms worsen as I watched The Hobbit) and that lasted a week or so, it finally seemed ok around christmas though I was still tired and got a sore throat (I assumed dried air)

Then New Years hit, and there I have a cold again, although this one was worse (despite the lack of a sore throat). Headaches, sinus pain, inabilty for a few hours to walk in a straight line. Actually threw up once. Which led me to believe it was the flu but my mom seems to think it was the same cold I've been having.

So I'm really ready to be done with this. Although the stuff I'm taking seems to be really helping, Its taking its sweet time getting rid of it.

But tomorrow I have off, so I'm going to relax tonight, sleep in tomorrow and hopefully by Wednesday I'll be normal again.

It appears I got that covered. The meds I'm currently taking to keep me some peace from it has 5mg of Phenylephrine Hydrocloride, and a few other things.

We have our easter stuff in now. We got it a few days before New Year!

I don't understand the need to buy easter candy in January. Like who first thought it was a brillant sales idea to have holiday stuff out several months ahead of time?
