A curse

You won't be needing that anymore, will you? It's not as if you were using it well...

Reigen shot out of the nightmare and sat up in bed, heart hammering so hard he could feel the blood rushing in his fingertips. Slowly, he brought a shaking hand to press into his chest, trying to soothe the cache there. It helped a little, but itonly leftroom for the other pain in his body to intensify.

He pulled his hand toward his throat where he knew the imprint of a hand was still etched into his skin like a brand. He could still feel those cold ethereal fingers clasped around his wind pipe, closing something off inside him that he didn't know how to open again.

And it was getting worse.

The curse was effecting more than just his voice, it was effecting every from of communication. Yesterday had been trying to write a report on a return client and after twenty minutes he realized his handwriting had turned into unintelligible scribblings. It was a miracle he'd been able to cover it up in time before the rest of the office had noticed, but he'd only succeeded by the skin of his teeth. It left him wondering, though. How much longer until he was forced out of all forms of expression?

To compound the problem, any time he tried resulted in, not only pain, but him becoming utterly exhausted. Just thinking too much was becoming a taxing event. He let out a sigh, picking up his phone to check the time. There were still a few hours till he had to make his way to the office, may as well try and catch more sleep.

He knew he'd need it.
