The Architect's Apprentice By Elif Shafak What a beautiful beautiful beautiful book! Of the four books @duchessofcornwallsreadingroom chose for Winter reading, I've read three. This was the one that at first glance I was tbe least enthusiastic about. I thought it would be bored down with dates and facts ( involving math!) which I would have found tedious. But no, there's an elephant, that piqued my interest. Granted, I would have liked more elephant time in the book as I have a disdain for much of humanity. But this was a story full of love and humor along with such descriptive narrative that I become so completely absorbed in 16th century Istanbul that I could imagine the sights, sounds and scents of every street in the city. That is why we read!
