6 years, 1 month and 29 days later... It is FINISHED! Realistically, I'd say about 15 hours of work went into this over the course of about 10 different sessions. My heart really went into this one. (8/29/2019)

Close to Normal || theartistic--one
He had found himself becoming increasingly anxious as the days closed in on the date they'd agreed to meet. And he spent the majority of the trip northward towards Central trying to pinpoint exactly why he felt like such a goddamn nervous wreck. The conclusion hadn't taken all that long to come to. It wasn't anymore that he didn't trust Kaye. No, that concern was dissolving more and more. Her friendship and closeness to Martel still stood. Danny seemed like a great kid; lucky to have found a home with her. And she'd been so nice to Genevieve despite everything that... feeling threatened by her wasn't even rational anymore. It was Central he didn't trust. Even though they weren't actually passing into its boarder, just sort of lingering in the woods outside of it, the idea of being so close made his stomach twist.
It'll be fine, he told himself, barely nodding as he took a turn off road and stole a look at Genevieve from the corner of his eye. She was still in the backseat, gnawing happily on the dragonfly and gently swinging her bear through the air by one of his paws. She'd taken to the trip surprisingly well. Only cried once and that was because she'd decided she wanted her breakfast ahead of schedule. The slightly earlier than normal wake up call must have confused her little tummy.
They reached the spot within a few minutes and Dol parked the car where he knew it wouldn't easily be spotted (and they were off road, anyway, so, that was going for them). He gingerly lifted Genevieve out of her carrier in the back, settling her in his arms and handing her the two toy critters she'd brought before pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"You ready t'see Danny?" He muttered, smirking as she immediately began to twist her body and crane her head as though attempting to take in the forest all at once. "... you look possessed, kid."
".... ...--TEE."
"Yes, there are lots'a trees. Kind'a the idea of forests."
"TEE!!!"
"... yes, that's a tree."
"TEE!! TEEEEEEEEEE--" her excited squeal broke off as a bird flew overhead and she immediately locked onto it, watching it sore over the leaves and disappear again. She continued to stare after it and he stuck a pinky in his ear, rubbing it tenderly and shaking his head. "...guess it has been a while since y'last saw a tree, huh? ...cities are stupid."

theartistic--one replied to your post: Kaye hopped down into the bar and look around for a moment before smiling. Behind the bar, she spotted the very chimera she had come to see. "Hey Dol!" she called out before moving over and climbing onto a stool, placing a small basket on the counter in front of her. "I got a surprise for you and Genny."
She noted how almost..relieved he looked seeing her. It made her wonder what exactly was running through his mind. “I know I didn’t have to but I thought maybe the two of you could use some cheerin’ up. Last time I saw ya, you weren’t too cheery."
"... heh... 'fraid, uh...--'fraid that hasn't changed much," he admitted with a weak smirk and chuckle, lightly tossing the dishrag he'd been holding into the sink before planting his hands on the counter and leaning on them a bit. "--but, ah, s'not important."
"She's just upstairs playin' with Ro... if y'want me t'go get 'r."

He'd recognized the smell of paint a minute or so before she reached the bar entrance and had been a little surprised to find himself ...grateful? Relieved? Something... that someone familiar was on their way in. Dol looked up the moment he was addressed, blinking once at the basket before looking up at her. "--what?"
"--uh, I mean--hi, Kaye."
"... you brought us somethin'? ...y'didn't have to..--I mean, uh...--what, um, what is it?"
