“Miss, I don’t think you should be here right now-”
The fact that he wasn’t one to pick up on infamous people was one thing, especially when on the job. But not recognizing the Avatar was a very serious thing, Phoenix!
He only seemed to have the best intentions in mind, it seemed. He had come to the murder scene of a local business man - the autopsy report reads that he had fallen out of a seven story building. Talk about terrifying! It was now his job to find the truth, and that also meant finding information that may turn the case around.

Hong very much enjoyed these moments just as much as Korra did. It wasn’t everyday that he got to spend some alone time with the most incredible woman in the world.
He was always at his most enthusiastic when holding the love of his life, just keeping her as close as possible. Whether it be in comfortable silence, or sharing laughter and stories or even kisses, these kind of moments were those that he could never pass up for anything.
It was something he cursed his job for.
It’s why when Korra says what she does, he’s not as surprised as he should be - it was from his constant separation from her due to work that caused that loneliness to really creep into her. He only had himself to blame.
His finger gently coils a strand of her hair from behind her ear, stroking it with his thumb as it was curled lightly around his digit. A purse of his lips, and he looks down at her as she glances up at him in some of the most adorable ways imaginable.
“Korra, you know how much I would love just to spend every hour of every day with you,” He begins, a small smile perched upon his mouth, his hand interlocked with her own tightening around her fingers’ grip slightly.
“And I’ve also told you that there’s only a couple more times that they’ll call me out before I can finally resign and settle down. With you.” He adds the last part as he leans down to press a kiss to her cheek.
“But I promise that I will make everything up to you as much as I can. Now, when we’re going out together... every hour that we are together, I’ll make it my duty to make up all the lost time to you. Is that... okay?”

❛ Bet you had no idea that the fifty second Earth King had a BEAR as a pet. && when I say bear I literally mean bear. Not a lion bear, not a platypus bear. Just a REGULAR bear, I think there are paintings of him with it in the inner walls of the city. I’ve never been so I’m not really sure, but I mean why wouldn’t they?! ❜
“Let’s get you to bed.”
“What? No, it’s okay - I’m almost…”
Almost finished with his shift? Yes, he knew that taking on two night shifts was incredibly dumb of him, but he had no choice!
One of the guards had fallen ill, and no one else would take up the shift. After all, who was crazy enough to volunteer for a midnight shift?
Well, Hong Li was crazy enough to do so.
“My shift-” A yawn interrupted his excuse, and he hid his yawn into his elbow before shaking out his head, managing a small grin to Korra. “-My shift doesn’t end… for another twenty minutes.”
He couldn’t breathe.
Pain was pulsing in his nerves like lightning striking the ground over and over again. It was dark out, and he knew that if he had gone to anyone, he wouldn’t be able to stop the bleeding...
There was something he had to do, someone he needed to hear. Before it was time.
Grabbing a hold of the phone with one hand, and dialing with the other before it returned to his abdomen, Hong Li waited until she was able to reach the other end.
Patiently. Impatiently.
