I was thinking about Hawthorn and how they ran away from being a seal for the infection and how they might have known the Hollow Knight when they were younger.

And they probably feel... very guilty for running, but seeing their sibling after so many years with injuries from holding the infection? A cherry of regret on the sundae of shame.

Yes, that quote is definitely both Vergil and V ; I can also see it applied to Dante as well, to be honest. Like, the three of them suffered a whole lot, and all three of them are coping with it very badly - Vergil sought to cut off his emotions, V taking up all the guilt of his crimes, and Dante not letting anyone in to help his own emotions. In a way they’re all just suffering and it’s just at a point where it’s causing pain. ;; w ;;
