OTD in Otakusatsu fandoms: Akira Kurosawa is born. One of the, if not the most, popular directors to come out of Japan. He worked mostly with Toho. He's respected by many filmmakers today, and listed as inspiration often. His samurai films, most notably "The Hidden Fortress", is credited for inspiring much of the original #StarWars... admittedly by George Lucas. In 1990 he won a 'lifetime achievement' award. He passed away in 1998.
