These are all from when we had just purchased the house! We walked through this property after actually losing 4 prior homeowning opportunities (a story for another post...) I remember the look on our and our agent’s faces. 🥴 On first glance, it was a HOT MESS. It was listed as an “Investing Opportunity for Serious Renovators” at a really low price for the area. One thing I always told everyone when walking through these lots: “Are the bones good? It’s okay if the skin is bad, we can fix that! Our money is going to be in the bones.” At this point we’d probably walked through 30 houses, all in various states of disrepair as we had a specific budget but ALSO a specific type of land in mind! We wanted elbow room between neighbors, we wanted sprawling yards, close to or more than an acre, and we wanted decent square footage. All this meant we had to look into a few of the more “under-loved” properties to stay in budget. We didn’t mind, though! While it would be nice to sign the deed on a turn-key, move-in-ready property, it also felt like a waste to transform an already-established property into our very specific tastes when we could be giving a forgotten space some new life!
