The Break-In (2016)
Finally, a recent found footage that truly entertained me.
A young couple expecting their first child moves in a what seems to be quite an alarming neighbourhood with their best friends living next door. There is a housebreaking concern conveying the tension in the beginning which starts giving in to quite a hair-raising mystery.
The acting has been undoubtedly good to the extent that the idea of them being just a horror film’s characters becomes a little hard to believe. The screenplay has been penned in a grasping manner from the very start but the tension could have been enhanced a little more. There are a few scenes with dialogues that could have been thrown in a nutshell (like most of my reviews ;)) or just eliminated. For instance, the conversation between the couple in one of the scenes seems a bit tedious and distracting. But, all’s well that ends well. And, the ending is as surprising, if not singular, as one of those M. Night Shyamalan movies.
Justin Doescher sets a remarkable example of what can be done with a well-scripted engaging story, an iPhone 6, a few security cameras, and some very talented actors including himself.
If you want to know how ingenuity breaks in when the budget is low then The Break-In deserves your attention.
