The card sent up on the silver platter was very simple, just an engraved name with a rather fine address added in the corner, and it reinforced the message sent with it. Lady Mycroft Holmes was calling upon Miss Irene Adler, in person, in the hopes of have a brief, quiet discussion. Standing in the entryway of the home, waiting for the return of the servant that would either indicate she could go up and be received or that she was being turned away as Miss Adler was ‘not home’, Mycroft didn’t remove her hat or gloves; a clear indication that she had no intention of staying longer than the polite twenty minutes.
