Brown hues flickered as the red rubber ball rolled into his pale hand. "Beau? Do you feel that?" The question was answered with an eager head nod. He smiled at his brother and rolled the ball back. "I'm going to see who wandered in this time...I'll be back." Slowly, Tate climbed out of the attic.
Voices drifted from the kitchen. His mother..Violet..Who was the other? Right now, Violet and Constance wouldn't be able to see him, so he'd be free to eavesdrop a little. God. That voice sounded familiar. But who was it? Almost hesitantly, he turned the corner.

Girls liked Tate Langdon plenty. They didn't mind that his blue and red brace made him spit a little when he spoke, or the fact that he kept a glasses case in his pocket at all times just in case. He was rich and sweet -- plus if you didn't look at his mouth you couldn't tell that he had braces.
