I respect this & haven’t seen the original Ghostbuster movies in like 10 years

in the original: the villain is the environmental protection agency so that’s some weird reagan years bullshit which isn’t like an end all be all of that movie being bad it’s just a super messed up theme

peter venkman sets up fake studies so he can get alone time with his female undergrad students. he brings syringes full of tranquilizers on his dates??? i can’t remember the exact line but he goes to see sigourney weaver like for date reasons and realizes she’s possessed so he knocks her out with thorazine which is like a mAJOR tranquilizer and antipsychotic that has the side effect of “making it hard for the body to move” (to quote fuckin wikipedia)

so like the movie itself sets up bill murray as an implied date rapist and every time i rewatch it i find it harder and harder to look past that absolute what the fuckery especially because the way that scene is set up he had NO REASON to think sigourney weaver had been possessed it had never come up it was not even hinted at (tho to be fair he rejects zuul’s offer to bang sigourney weaver’s body but it’s stated that’s only because zuul is you know like a ghost or bad guy or whatever)

that movie has a lot of great jokes but it is blanketed by a lot of really upsetting and gross themes
