i dont think KNow Your Meme gets enough credit for how seriously they archive information. i use them as a historical research source constantly. i personally have never found any false information on their site, im sure they make mistakes and i just havent personally seen any because i havent happened to be well-versed in the particular event where the error was made, but the format of their research is extremely citation-heavy. this has been especially true of how they link to tumblr posts that originated memes etc. no one else is keeping track of this information in this way

not lovers not enemies but a secret third thing (she picked him because she knows he's brave even though he thinks he's a coward. it's her job is to be right about everything. the crew thinks they're sleeping together. he calls himself "her personal science lap dog". she's sending him on a one way trip to save the earth because she believes in him. it's her job to be right about everything. he tells her she's murdering him. she’s trying to stop herself from crying. she programs the ship to know how he likes his coffee. he's her best friend. she's his. she sedates him and sends him to his death. he can't forgive her but he understands. in the end she was right about everything)

ok i'm saying more about stratt bc i literally am obsessed with her so. in the book there's a part where on launch day she goes into grace's jail cell and gives this whole monologue about the severity of the situation because she needs him to understand why she did everything she did. she wouldn't be monologuing in a jail cell with him as her literal captive audience if she hadn't also felt betrayed by him when he said no. she wouldn't be pacing back and forth nervously infodumping about world history if she wasn't absolutely begging for him to understand her. there's actually no reason for her to be there doing that other than she feels that she has to before it's too late.

eva stratt is not an open book and ryland grace is not good at observing people, least of all her, and by the end she regrets not being more forthcoming with him because maybe if she had he would have agreed. if he had understood maybe this would have been easier for both of them. she's camouflaging it in a speech about agriculture but this is a woman who is begging for the one person she thought knew her best to understand her. because maybe if he understands he will complete the mission and save them all. and he does, in the end, just not when she needed him to.
