Finally, an update on The Curse of 100! 18 down and 82 to go ... Read the next chapter on Ao3!
Updates weekend!
I'm not sure when this happened, but at some point recently, I crossed over 1 MILLION hits on my stories!! What a milestone! Though, to be transparent ... 468,000+ of those are for my most read story, Breed.*
Also, despite not posting for months, my number of user subscriptions on Ao3 keeps rising. Maybe they're mostly bots, but I hope not :) I really appreciate that people want to read what I write!
NaNoWriMo always takes a lot out of me and this year was no exception, especially since I had to go hard in the final days to get 50K words. But this year was also unique because I wrote my first original story! Wait, not wrote – that would imply I actually finished it. No, it is a Work In Progress like a lot of other things, and speaking of ...
I've been pushing myself to update my incomplete stories and dubbed this "updates week" for myself. This weekend I am planning to update three stories:
The Curse of 100 - finally finished the next chapter after having it half done for a few months ...
The Idol & The Football Star - I've decided to end with a third chapter because I am not as inspired on this as I want to be. It still feels weird writing about real people, especially with new information constantly coming out about them that changes the story. I have an idea to do a paranormal AU with a witch Taylor and werewolf Travis but not sure when I'll have time to write it ...
and, the most triumphant update:
New Year's Eve Wedding Week - which hasn't been updated in TWO years! Because I only want to write it at this time of year, ya know? Well, and also I dove headfirst into writing Dramione over Biospecialist ... but I always intended to finish this and it will be - hopefully very soon!
Good things are coming in 2024!
*Someone told me that I will lose my linked GIFs because Discord is not going to host images anymore. I've been waiting for this to happen before I figure out my next move. If anyone has any ideas of where to host sexy GIFs, let me know!
Timing is everything
Isn’t it ironic ... that in the process of writing the ending to Severance, I was offered a severance package by my company? This past month or so has been wild, and unfortunately hasn’t been very conducive to writing. If you’re wondering when the next chapter is coming, I don’t know yet. I’m on my third rewrite of Chapter 11 lololololol but maybe third time’s the charm? I hope to have it done soon though, especially since I ...
... totally dropped the ball on The Curse of 100. I had the best of intentions in January when I said regular updates were coming! What a cliche I’ve become. I have a list of excuses – being intimidated by the glory hole chapter even though I’m also excited to write it; wanting to finish Severance so I can put all my focus on 100; and then getting wrapped up in my Call Me Daddy fest fic again – but then I remind myself that I’m supposed to be enjoying this. It’s not a job or a chore, so that means I can take my time.
In my opinion, it will be worth the wait :)
On a bender
I’ve been super inspired to write lately! Does that mean I’ve finished my WIPs? No, of course not! I’ve started posting a totally new story :)
As I said in my last post, there are far more stories in my drafts folder than what you can read on Ao3. I realized that I never finished the gift fic for my amazing alpha/beta on Slytherin Toy, @f1dget-scribbles. So I dropped everything, and started finishing – and posting – my Dramione A/B/O trope: I fucking hate you, but I love fucking you.
The main idea behind it was to do something different with A/B/O, and I landed on trying to write an alpha-omega love story where they don’t fall in love. I just thought it would be interesting to not have alpha Draco be a secretly good guy deep down, and to not have omega Hermione instantly fall for him. We love those stories for typically following the same formula, but I didn’t want to rehash someone else’s story.
I am still working on the ending - and decided to do two different ones. One will be a happy ending, and the other will be dark. I really did enjoy writing both!
What feels great about posting that story is that it is mostly done. For much of the past year, I have been going chapter by chapter on a lot of stories and that gets sort of stressful. I’m still working through The Curse of 100, and it’s hard to be under the gun on every chapter. It makes me not want to write it sometimes.
And the poor readers of my Biospecialist fic that I never finished! It got to the point where I just figured I would work on New Year’s Eve Wedding Week when we get closer to a new year. I just haven’t been inspired to write for Agents of SHIELD in a long time, sadly.
But I so appreciate every click and every comment! I have so many exciting things I am working on and can’t wait to keep sharing. Thanks for reading!
Down the plot hole
I found out a few weeks ago that the HP Call Me Daddy Fest was happening again, and with the success I’ve had from Breed I felt as if my honor was being questioned if I didn’t participate.
I thought I had a pretty great approach for coming up with what I thought would be a quick one-shot. I looked through my doc of story ideas and picked out ones that would fit the fest parameters. Then I did sprints on each topic and the one that flowed the easiest, I decided to write.
14,000 WORDS AND THREE WEEKS LATER: I finally finished it! I am a week late, but the organizers said they would still let me in ... even though I only asked for one extra day and that turned into seven ... whoops ...
This is my explanation for why I haven’t finished Severance and why I already stopped updating regularly on The Curse of 100. I don’t know if this expression makes any sense, but I got lost down a plot hole. I couldn’t get anything done until I finished the fest fic, but I think fans of my other stories are going to find it is right up their alley!
I will be back to regularly scheduled programming very soon :)
Story ADHD
As of late, the days I am inspired to write have been few and far between. I can blame it on work being really intense right now, but there's also a little bit of story ADHD happening.
I finished The Enchanted Smutbook and then The Slytherin Toy's Christmas Wish and also a surprise chapter of Breed. So I thought ... great, now I can devote all of my time to finishing my WIPs – The Curse of 100 and New Year's Eve Wedding Week.
It's just ... the thing is ... those aren't truly my only WIPs. I have plenty of other stories I will get randomly inspired to write, but that I haven't started posting:
A/B/O - this is my gift fic for @f1dget-scribbles :) The idea behind it is an A/B/O Dramione where they don't magically like each other just because they're mated. And also filling it with Fidget's favorite things.
Severance - have you seen the show on Apple TV? This will be my take on that with Hermione and Draco as co-workers who have separate memories of work and home. This was my Camp NaNo project in July but I am only about halfway finished.
Soulmate Spell - a coven casts a spell to reveal soulmate marks ... and guess whose names end up on Hermione and Draco's arms??
Memory Loss fic - Draco captures Hermione during the war and she erases her own memory. Five years later, they are living together as a couple in France ... and Harry finds them!
Triad fic - Development of Theo/Draco/Hermione during eighth year with flashbacks to a Harry/Ron/Hermione romantic triad while they're on the run
Slave fic - Bellatrix used a spell on Hermione to make her a slave to the house of Black. When Draco figures this out during eighth year, things get a little dark.
Commissioned fics - Now, this isn't a thing that I usually do, but ArizonaiceT666 reached out and asked me to write a multi-chapter story and I said I would, but we'll see when I actually get to it. We also talked about me writing a story based on "Hermione's Normal Day" and that flowed really easily - I am about halfway done with that two-chapter story, and it is juicy and dark.
Oh, right and the Slytherin Toy sequel - I've got bits and pieces on this one but will have to seriously sit down and write this soon or it will probably never get done ...
It's funny now that I've listed them out - most of them are my takes on different tropes. (That list doesn't include the dozen other Word docs that never went anywhere ...)
You see, I am trying to learn from my mistakes and actually finish my stories before I start posting. And this is why it is a slog for me to post on 100 and NYE (which, at this point, probably won't be updated until it's actually NYE again - whoops).
I have so many stories in my head and they don't always want to come out on schedule. It's like story ADHD, bouncing around from story to story and not getting anywhere on any of them. NaNoWriMo is coming up and hopefully I will be able to focus on something in November - the question is, though ... what story will I focus on next? And ... can I even focus?
"If I found the notebook first, I don’t know what I would have done but I’m pretty sure I would have written a fantasy about you, too. I bet that surprises you, but c’mon Granger, you have to know … you’re every lad's fantasy."
Chapter 18, The Enchanted Smutbook
Will this line make the cut as the next chapter of The Enchanted Smutbook goes into the editing stage? Maybe, maybe not. Just know that I’m feeling good about what I’ve written and hope to post either tomorrow or this weekend!
I’m also about halfway through Chapter 17 of The Slytherin Toy’s Christmas Wish. Look for an update on that sometime next week - probably later in the week, if we’re being realistic.
I’m still procrastinating on New Year’s Eve Wedding Week, and I’m so relieved I put The Curse of 100 on hiatus. I see the end in sight for Smutbook and once that’s done, I can refocus on 100. Fingers crossed!
Bang my head against the wall
I’ve written 3+ versions of the next chapter of The Slytherin Toy’s Christmas Wish and I just can’t seem to get it right. It’s frustrating when you struggle with a chapter that isn’t even a monumental one. What also sucks is that I put off updating the story for a while and now it’s been almost two months! I am getting anxious to finish it like I was when finishing Smutbook. Even though ... there will likely be a sequel to Toy. But let’s just take it one step at a time!
Because of my issues on Toy, I haven’t had much space in my brain yet for The Curse of 100. I’ve been dabbling a bit on the next chapter and just hope to have something by the end of the month. I’m still debating whether to make 100 or Toy (or something new) my Camp NaNo project for July.
I’m a total liar who lies when it comes to my Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. story, New Year’s Eve Wedding Week. I totally planned on rewatching some episodes to get me in the mood and then I just ... didn’t. Still TBD on the updates for that one! I just definitely won’t post again until I have the last two chapters finalized.
Thanks so much for reading xx
P.S. I am feeling much better after having Covid. I don’t seem to have any lasting effects, so I am feeling very lucky. Stay safe out there!
