  staring at a distant point, unblinking, the straw hat captain pauses for an awkward period of silence. then dark brows knit together, Luffy frowns, and his attention swivels to the other man.

                        [  23.  ]   sender  playfully  steals  something  from  receiver,                                      initiating  a  chase.   "come  and  get  it,  then."

          PLAYING  WITH  USOPP  ABOARD  THE  SUNNY        was  always  incredibly  fun  as  there  was  a  seemingly   endless   amount  of  games  for  the  both  of  them  to  play.  an  often  occuring  one  was  simply  tag  ,  and  with  the  size  of  the  sunny  it  was  easy  to  do  that  to  their  heart's  content.  that's  what  the  pair  was  currently  doing  at  the  moment   ⸻   chasing  one  another  up  and  down  the  deck  ,  laughing  and  screaming  and  throwing  stupid  punches  as  they  passed  the  time  between  islands.

          keeping  entertained  during  their  travels  was  a  little  difficult  half  the  time.  luffy  had  a   wildly   short  attention  span  as  it  was  ,  and  if  you  add  in  the  endless  ocean  he's  never  allowed  to  touch  for  fear  of  drowning   (  even  if  the  fish  in  there  are  suuuuper  tempting  )   he's  just  kind  of  stuck.  so  games  it  was!  as  luffy  and  usopp  rounded  a  sharp  corner  together  on  the  upper  deck  of  the  thousand  sunny  he  giggled  excitedly  ,  his  hand  catching  on  a  corner  to  keep  himself  from  skidding  off.

          at  some  point  usopp  had  managed  to  get  his  grubby  little  hands  on  luffy's  ever  so  precious  straw  hat  ,  and  he  was  determined  to  get  it  back.  reality  was   …   it  wasn't  going  to  be  that  hard  ,  but  he'd  gotten  so  many  lectures  over  the  years  about  not  destroying  ships  so  he  was  trying  to  at  least  be  sort  of  careful.  emphasis  on   sort  of.    “  usopp  give  my  back  my  hat!  ”     he  cried  out  ,   lips  tugging  into  a  grin  that  screamed  he  was  about  to  do  something  he   really   shouldn't.  but  who  was  going  to  stop  him  ,  huh?!

          his  arms  shot  forward  until  they  could  manage  to  find  something  to  grab  onto  ,  rubber  limbs   quaking  a  little  bit   as  the  elasticity  of  them  snapped  into  place.    “  gum-gum   …  ”     a  tiny  chuckle  ,  a  very  dangerous  one  ,  as  he  stared  usopp  down.  his  fingers  twitched  and  curled  tighter  around  the  ledge  he  was  holding  onto  as  his  body  went  tight.    “  rockeeeeeeeet!  ”     and  so  he  shot  forward  ,  gaze  zeroing  in  on  the  hat  in  his  friends  hands.
