Being an artist and a perfectionist is actually a curse.
Even art that is insanely perfect doesn't resonate with our brain. We acknowledge it, say WOWWWWW, and remember it vaguely. Imperfections remain. We remember the small details / odd intricacies of art and our brains say "fuck yeah - that's human- we fux w that" and we never forget that shit.
Just as many things are- the concept of perfection is subjective. What is perfect to me today- may not be the same 20 minutes or 20 years from now. I spend so much time dwelling and believing something needs to be perfect before I can accept it and that's so unrealistic. I will learn something new in a week/ month/ year that will skew my concept of perfection and feel differently about something I've created.
I think what matters is if it envokes a feeling. Do I enjoy it? Does it capture an emotion? Will adding to it take away from my original thought? Do I even know wtf my original thought was? -- In this moment I think we usually turn to friends or trusted ppl to give their opinion on something they're not fully involved with. And that can be good or bad for any situation. If you're blessed with many people you trust to share their educated opinion of your work- cool, this can help you. If you turn to strangers on the internet ---- shit can still go either way but ppl that don't know you aren't as quick to help in the way you need.
Most of this is rambling but I wanted to share it in case anyone else ever has these thoughts or curses. A little pep talk for myself and maybe others. I think a lot about how much incredible art we'd have if people weren't so stuck in this idea that it needs to be better than perfect before I share it with the world.
No one else knows wtf your aiming for. If you love what you've made and it meets each of your decided goals for creating - share that shit. Don't hold back.
Too much art has never been a bad thing.
One thing about me, I will absolutely throat every frozen Indian food item at trader joes
