Don’t Stop Till’ You’re Dead...i.e. Never. Give. Up.
We’ve been on the road for the better part of 40 days now--going East First through a blizzard--a couple days home at the end of March and then back at it heading South. One thing I can say is that every time we go out we learn a little bit more about our country, the people around us, the structures and systems we live under, but especially about ourselves. It gets to a point where every day is a test, whether it be the fact that you haven’t eaten cause you can’t afford it and the venue won’t feed you but you have to play the gig anyway. Or the fact that you might snap at your brother for the smallest and pettiest thing, which is usually due to the fact that your dirty, tired and hungry all the time. Not to mention you have been on top of each other in a van for over a month--let’s just say things are going to inevitably blow up once in a while--it’s inevitable. However, Slowly it dawns on you that those things start to build character and integrity. Every day you become more passionate about what you’re doing with your life because you know you have earned it. Without the constant sacrifice, constant work, constant rollercoaster of emotional and physical turmoil this wouldn’t be what it is--which can be said for anything in life. What you come to realize is this is how you learn and grow, both as an individual and as a group. Hopefully, this will never cease to be the case in your lifetime. The bottomline here being that no matter what, do what you love to do and do it with disregard, even if it tears you a part. The fact that we get to play music every day despite all the obstacles is the only thing that keeps us alive, even when we are constantly questioning ourselves or what we are doing with our lives (btw it’s healthy to question and reevaluate yourself from time to time). Things will not always go your way or as planned, but that’s life. We deal with it together and move forward. Never let anything get in the way of that thing that you are most passionate about. Bukowski said it best when he told us all to “find something that you love, and let it kill you.” And you know what...we won’t stop until it does!
