“You wanna get drunk?”

“I do,” Kennedy agreed, bringing the glass to his lips and giving the woman a once-over. He set down his drink and raised a brow at her. There was a hint of amusement in his expression.
“Did you have other plans... or are you gonna pay me to babysit you again? Holding your hair back costs extra, you know.”
“You can’t be serious.”

“Of course I’m serious,” he retorted, furrowing his brow and pulling an exaggerated half-insulted face. “I’m always serious.”
“I’d rather kiss a dead moose’s butt.”

“That’s harsh. I’m sure he’s been told he’s handsome his whole life,” James said, taking a small sip of beer before adding, “by his mother.”
“Hmmm. Well, whaddya wanna do now?”

“After that adventure, I think we deserve a warm meal and a strong drink,” Gloria said with a relieved sigh. “...and a nap.”
“Aw you have a wonderful smile, you should wear it more often.”

Fortunately, it seemed the mercenary was in good spirits. Instead of defaulting to a frown and a roll of his eyes, Kennedy’s smile only widened.
He leaned forward, and lowered his voice to a whisper before replying,
“I... don’t remember asking you.”
“I think you pissed him off!”

She should have known, really, that firing at the mirelurk would do little more than anger it. Their shells were so damn thick. But Gloria wanted to draw it away from the half-submerged library so they could explore it more freely. With their luck, it was a whole nest.
“Climb to higher ground, eventually it won’t be able to follow us,” she said, already starting up a half-collapsed fire escape. “It’ll still be pissed, but it’ll get tired of waiting for us to come down. If not, we’ll have a better chance of chipping through its shell.”
“You wanna get drunk?”

A broad grin crossed his face and he let out an exaggerated sigh of relief.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
“You won’t even know I’m here.”

“Good, makes the babysitting easier when you’re not in the way,” he remarked with a hushed tone, a hint of a smirk on his face.
