Summary: Having been injured and permanently deafened while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan, Rick is discharged from the army and has to go home to Roarton - somewhere he really doesn't want to be. He struggles to come to terms with what has happened, and also to pull himself out of the depression he finds himself falling into. It's only when Kieren comes back to Roarton during the summer holiday that Rick realises he might not have lost absolutely everything.
