OH YEAH HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY TO @thedreamywarrior!!! 💖
It is very common in my dreams to, at some point, know that I'm dreaming. Sometimes I start the dream knowing that fact.
There's times where my dreams don't involve me directly, but I'm more like a director of a movie. I create stories within the dream, sometimes they get out of hand and hard to control, but it's how I have a bunch of dreams I can remember in high detail!
There'd be points where I go "I want to try remember this, let's replay it" and even though the repetition of the "scene" won't really be the same as the first one, I try to take my time analyzing everything. Every action. I want to try remember them so I can talk about how cool or wild each dream was.
Its pretty amazing that you have that much control over your dreams! The mind really is a weird place. I've read about people managing to be aware from the start, and processes to try and activate that type of dreaming, but I've not managed to intentionally do it myself.
For me it's strange because there seems to be different categories of 'awareness', or at least different reactions? Like, sometimes I'll become aware that it's a dream pretty early on, but just roll with it? Just sort of 'yeah this is a dream, anyway where was i' and then things continue as normal, although often more vivid or coherent.
Then theres the times when I'll realise I'm dreaming and that immediately wakes me up. Rarely I'll be able to amend the situation, then wake up, (for example, during a nightmare I realise what's going on and go a different direction which then gives me enough time to wake myself up) but I've not been able to change things and stay asleep.
Then theres the really weird stuff. One time I was having what I assume was a sleep paralysis moment (luckily nothing as scary as most people talk about, but still rather creepy), then I 'woke myself up' (my go too method is thinking of song lyrics, that seems to be enough) but ended up in another dream? I realised that that was a dream aswell straight away, and 'woke up' again, but this time the sleep paralysis blob things were back but I was in a different room? THEN I managed to Actually wake up. Let's just say I was a little freaked out after that
The other weird but less creepy thing is, you know the whole 'pinch yourself to see if you're dreaming' thing? Well sometimes if I'm questioning if I'm in a dream I will pinch my hand, if I cant feel anything I wake up. However a few times that I have done that, i have felt the pinch and therefore assumed everything was fine. So i guess I can feel pain in my dreams. Theres no way that could become a problem....
And I wish I could memorise as much stuff as you. It's strange, often they are so vivid, essentially like reality that i can remember perfectly while asleep, with full conversations and everything, but as soon as i wake up it all slips away. And they are mostly coherent, at least the individual events are, and sometimes are really complex for some reason, but I tend to flick between multiple 'plots' sometimes which can make it a little messy. Who knows, maybe I can practise somehow
