rewatching “mystery spot” with the additional context that gabriel is behind it is making me insane. the big lesson that sam is supposed to learn is that he can’t save his brother. gabriel ran away from his own brothers thousands of years ago, and he knows michael is destined to kill lucifer, and he knows he can’t do a damn thing about it.

“he’s my brother,” says sam.

“yep,” says gabriel. “and like it or not, this is what life’s gonna be like without him.”

(and this isn’t even getting into how by killing dean over and over, gabriel is killing an effigy of his oldest brother)
