Zombie AU || the-frost-children

Alex had lasted much longer than he had expected to. He hadn't expected to last even a month, yet here he was, nearly a year into the zombie epidemic. He was running low on food, so he decided to check out a restaurant in the area he was in.

Walking carefully, as to not alert the zombies, he moved down the street and made it into the resturant. He snuck back to the kitchen, and had made it a few feet in - just in front of the pots and pans - when he ran into someone, knocking them both into the shelves with a loud crash.

He quickly picked himself up, and looked around. He then turned to the girl.  "Sorry. I didn't know anyone else was camped here anymore. C'mon, we should get out of here before they get in."

Six months.

He counted the days, the hours, the passing minutes – everything. Hair tousled underneath a cap, Jack leaned back against his seat, gun slung on his shoulder next to the bullets that wrapped his chest underneath the camouflage jacket.

The man beside him was praying in slightly audible whispers. Jack couldn’t blame him; people often prayed when they’re terrified. He won’t lie, he was scared too. Scared he would never come home.

The jeep rocked as they drove through unpaved terrain. They were crossing contested territory; the enemies could jump out any minute, but he learned how to be alert.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small locket and unlatched it, revealing a small picture of his daughter. She was no older than two years; you could tell because she had short wispy hair, and just one front tooth. He smiled softly, placing a finger on the portrait.

I’ll come home.

He has something worth fighting for.

I promise, I’ll come back without a scratch—

“DUCK!!”

There was a click, a blast and a darkness that followed.

"Yeah ye did but lassie, your mother told me not to tell you that she was leaving you all with us. And that she would visit. I’m sorry wee bab…"

"We’re not. Your father went to go fight Pitch. Again."

Jack looked down at his wrist. The huge numbers hadn’t made any sense when he was growing up. It had seemed like he would die before ever meeting his soulmate, and then the accident happened. The numbers were all he had for a while, and now those numbers were in their final seconds.

"Ten seconds to go," he muttered, landing in a tree back in Burgess. "Nine, eight, seven…" Jack ruffled his hair nervously, and leaned casually on the trunk. "Three, two…" He heard a rustling from the branches above him. Looking up, a girl with snow white hair fell straight down into his arms. Jack’s brows furrowed. She looked awfully familiar, although he couldn’t place why. Glancing down, the numbers had finally hit 00:00:00. "Well then… That was dramatic."

Christina walked up to her dad's grave, she tried to contain her tears but it was no use. Some tears already escaped her, "I-I miss you... Daddy." She sobbed, sitting down next to the gravestone. Frost bloomed on it, just because of her powers were reflecting her feelings. When she heard a familiar voice, the one that missed so much. Her eyes widened and looked behind her. "D-daddy?" Tears were still streaming down her face, as she said that.

Jack looked at her, smiling sadly, "Hey…" He reached out to touch his daughter’s cheek in an attempt to wipe her tears away, but his hand only went through her. "Haven’t you grown," he said, "Geez, I sound like an old man, don’t I?"

He chuckled, "I’m sorry, again. I…I couldn’t hold up anymore." Snow wasn’t falling, maybe now that he was gone, he couldn’t control the weather anymore and wind was no longer his servant. He was just a mere spirit, bound to the earth until peace came to lift him.
