Xylance's Final Interview
Xylance tugged at the collar of his suit, uncomfortable to be both in the outfit and to be behind the stage. In an icy blue three-piece suit, Xylance stood backstage and looked at himself in the mirror. It wasn’t until just now that he noticed the tie he had on was made of Jaguar print. He rolled his eyes as a set of piercing blue ones spotted him.
"They’re really plugging that whole Jaguar thing aren’t they?" Midnight asked.
"Well, you know the Capitol." Xylance started. "Always gotta have a story to force feed Panem."
Midnight shrugged and squeezed his shoulder. ”Then give them another story.”
Kardos and Kastos had finished their introductions and annoucned the winning tribute’s name, ushering him to join them on stage.
Kardos began. ”So Xylance how does it feel to be a victor like us?”
"Well while I’m obviously glad to be alive, I wouldn’t say I feel much like any of you guys. If I’m correct, you two cut down a high number of competitors with your bare fists and a chainsaw, but as you all know by now I ended up not killing anyone. Either way, it feels rewarding, like my real life has finally begun."
"I felt the same way once I got my win. So what about Jaguar, we all saw the connection you two had in the bloodbath but to have him taken away by your own district partner is just cruel, what was going through your mind when that was all taking place?" Kastos asked.
"It was definitely hard, watching him leave this world. I was going to give up right then and there but something pushed me onward. And while Jaguar was the first genuinely nice person I’ve ever met and the first person I grew legitimately attached to, I think I found solace elsewhere within District 6." Xylance smiled softly as he looked to his side. Backstage, Midnight couldn’t contain his own grin.
Xylance zoned out after seeing Midnight, answering each of the twins questions without really paying too much attention. He began to give generic answers that he knew the capitol wanted to hear just so that he could finally move on with his life after the horrors the games had brought him. Only one thing was important to him now and it was far from the capitol, lying in the humble district between 5 and 7.
