Robert nearly jumps out of his skin when he hears Andre's voice, having been turned around at the moment. He always gets a bit anxious around officers, wondering if they'll catch on to him, or if he'll say the wrong thing or linger too long. He takes a deep breath, turns around. It's fine. It's fine. Just be cordial, as always.

"Major, I didn't think I would see you again so soon," is what he says as he pours a glass of Medeira and pushes it over to him. "So what brings you in today, hm?"

Although there was a slight barb in the sentiment, the corner of Ben's mouth tipped upward, his thumb almost methodically running over his bottom lip. "Well, there's nothing quite like keeping one's pride in check," he agreed, "so for that reason, I won't declare otherwise...though in all fairness, I suppose we'll have to wait and see who will become the victor of the spoils."

Perhaps long ago, Ben might have felt pride and vigor in his achievements. Now, however, everything was merely viewed as a burden -- the next hurdle to overcome to save his friends and the colonies.

There was no rest; there was no respite. And yet somehow, deep in his very heart, Ben knew his answer without question.

"The tactic that foiled Gamble's counterfeiting scheme," Ben tightly said. "Perhaps it's not my proudest, nor even greatest moment in the field, but it is a triumph of sorts since it allowed Sackett's spirit to finally rest."

He didn't wish to speak more on the matter. Although the endeavor was a success, it was also ultimately a failure -- one that rattled deep within his bones any time he thought of Sackett breathing his last.

Efficacy and morals... The very question seemed almost laughable, given just who was posing the suggestion. Had André, himself, not been one of the very first to enact spying within the colonies? Was it not he who'd decided to forego principle and merit for the greater good?

Slowly, a tight smile tipped the corner of Ben's mouth and he inclined his head. As far as he was concerned, he had already lain waste to honor and morals via the likes of Worthington. "Yes," he replied.
