(under cut cos damn that’s a lot)
Dressed to Suppress
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
don’t usually like reverb effects in my rock music but metric’s vocalist has the soprano to make it sound good tbh
Dead Disco
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
well i certainly like the dissonance in the intro! and the song’s a groove, but i wish the vocalist had showed off those pipes more.
Synthetica
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
liking that synth wail at the beginning; song transitions into a decent banger
Gold Guns Girls
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
solo guitar riff intros leading into full ensemble are my SHIT
Sick Muse
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
the chords in the chorus give it an almost wistful feel; i dig unexpected mood changes thru chords, esp in genres where those moods aren’t common
Satellite Mind
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
it’s definitely a metric song. very much their style.
Something Human
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
i really like the semi-acoustic feel and the electronic buzz at the end; it really fits w the lyrical imagery of robot/human dichotomy
Futurism
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
well that’s a big change from the last one. synthetic as FUC and BOY does this man know how to WAIL when the song calls for it
The Hounds
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
now that’s a driving groove. i dig it!
Little Black Submarines
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
i dig the almost stop-and-go or trudging feel of the drum rhythm; fits the marcato, deliberate singing and the woe-is-me lyrics
Hell of a Season
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
BAM BAM BAM. LUV THAT DRUMS.
Ten Cent Pistol
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
i’m a fan of the cowboy-trail-song/folksy tone to this song; they should do that more often
Mind Eraser
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
don’t usually like it when songs get that grainy and overloaded feel but sometimes it works, and it worked here.
All Of The Dead Girls (body horror in link)
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
love those rhythms w accents on 2 and 4; almost makes it sound like skipping rope or smth.
Born to Lie (body horror in link)
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
ooohhhh i love the overlapping voices/lyrics in the chorus!
Kill for Candy (body horror in link)
couldn’t listen all the way through | not to my liking | meh | good | nice! | OH GODDAMN | downloaded before it even finished
i like the leaping/soaring effect made by those interval jumps the singer does! adds a nice tone to the song
put music recommendations in my inbox and i’ll rate them!
For your music question; I don't know how much you're into video-game soundtracks, but more or less anything made for Supergiant Games' games are stellar! I really, really like their Transistor and Pyre soundtracks. Pyre's very very good in general! Also, probably, more or less anything by Muse and Metric if you're into more rock stuff (in the case of Muse) or Pop-electroish-rock in terms of Metric!
i have some music from transistor already, and some muse (thanks @caderynshepard) and some metric, but i’m gonna need some specific songs that you want me to check out please if you want some rates, siddo
Ahhhh YAY okay I love this thing so you get three! :D
Colors by Halsey: “You were red, and you like me because I was blue; but you touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky, just when you decided purple wasn’t for you.” Idk exactly why except it totally hits my #tragedy button
Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright: “And remember when I moved in you, the holy dark was moving too, and every breath we drew was hallelujah.” One of the very few if not the only sexual lyrics in a song to say “intimacy” as opposed to “explicit” to me and I love it
I Am Here by Q Smith (from Come From Away): “I am telling you, listen, my son, he takes risks, he’s not missing, he’s helping or hurt, he’ll get out of this - yes, I’ll keep trying, and yes here’s the number, and yes at the Legion in Gander, I’ll be right here. I should be there when it’s over and done, when he comes through the door and says ‘I’m home, mom!’ I should be there for my son, but instead I am here.” I just - I have a lot of love for this whole play, but this song especially and this portion more than anything else because it’s a mom trying to get in contact with her son, a firefighter in New York during 9/11 and she’s so desperate to hear anything and no one is helping her and it just kills me, especially since my dad is a firefighter and just imagining being in that situation is awful >.< I love this whole thing though.
There’s a sequel for Fury Road in the making, you know! And I think Fury Road is its own continuity, not a reboot of the old movies.
Yup, talking about the prequel is what spawned this conversation in the first place. TY though! <3
(re: Fury Road’s continuity - it exists in the same nebulous vague continuity as all Mad Max movies do. The story supervisor talks a lot about this in the Fury Road companion book! It’s a really good read and you definitely should check it out if you have a chance. It’s talks a lot about the about the mythic, folkloric elements of the Mad Max movies. I’m a fan.)
