Marco was finding it hard to resist his usual habit of disappearing into the darkness. He couldn’t though, unless it was an emergency and they needed to stay hidden. He wasn’t sure if Clay could see him with a sort of ghostly night vision and had only wondered about it once they were heading towards their goal.
They needed to be quiet until they had an idea what they were dealing with. That and as they got closer, Marco would need to remove the shadows from Clay to keep him hidden so communicating would be difficult short of finding a spot light enough that they could… maybe write in the dirt or something to each other.
Marco rolled his eyes, annoyed that they couldn’t even use comms because of Bancroft and his powers. He had done it a few times on missions before out of necessity, but that didn’t mean he liked it. To communicate with the other groups, one of them would have to physically go find the others.
For now, at least, Marco had left a thin layer of shadow over Clay’s form, just enough that Marco could make out his shape with his night vision. Others would struggle to see the ghost without enhanced eyesight unless he made a lot of movement.
With him visible, Marco could at least ask some questions, if he was careful to word them so all he needed was a visual yes or no.
“Do you recall which part of the building he was in?”
[ PERSON ] + Have you thought about that fact that Germaine may outlive you?
"Uh, yeah. But you know what? As a SHIELD agent, that's very possible with anyone I date. Clay was younger than me.
And...at least I know then that Hailey will be safe even if I'm not there."
Cassie had gone looking for Marco once she turned up for work, hoping for an update on Ray, only to find his office empty. What was there was a forgotten coffee she put into the bin and papers all over the desk, along with Ray's laptop and Marco's computer still running.
Huh. Must have gone for a break.
Cassie sighed and sat in the chair, accidentally bumping the laptop and waking it up in the process to find the familiar all-capitals writing on the screen.
"Clay?" She had no idea if he was even still around, but figured she'd try anyway. "Are you here?"

*A mafia/shield au for @theghostofagentweiss just because 🤷🏼♀️* It was his first day in SHIELD. The Murphy family had made a deal with the group once they had caught on that the the mafia boss was employing some sort of powered individual to track down various business partners and rivals. SHIELD agreed to not shut them down, on the condition that the powered one work part time for them as well. Rather than lose everything they had built, the Murphy boss had agreed to the deal.
Naturally, rumours were travelling around the SHIELD base about their newest employee and he had already had to shoo away a few curious agents as he’d made his way in to see the agents in charge of the base. More again as he made his way to his new (part time) office.
Soon after he had been shown around the place, Ray headed to the break room. If it weren’t for the gossip, he’d have just looked like another agent in his suit and tie, hair brushed neat.
He sighed as he sensed someone in the doorway and turned away from the coffee he’d just made.
“Yes?” He asked in a strained tone, trying not to snap. Just in case they hadn’t come to stare like the others and simply found themselves in the same break room by chance…

It had been nearly a month since Ray had returned from Australia with Hailey and while she was fairly used to living with her new family now, she was still getting used to the other major change in her life.
Ray was busy cleaning up the mess of scattered books, papers and couch cushions in the living room and Hailey had run off to hide in her bedroom with his cat and a picture she'd taken from a broken frame he hadn’t yet noticed. Like a lot of other items in her room, her blanket was decorated with horses to match her favourite plush toy (also the only one she’d managed to bring from Australia). Hailey climbed onto her bed with Jareth held in one arm and sat in the corner by her pillow, where she could lean against the wall beside her. This was her favourite sulking spot, besides under her ‘dads’ bed.
Hailey stretched her legs out and laid the old cat on them before pulling the stolen photo out of her shirt sleeve. It was one she had been curious about for a while, but never got a decent answer about it, if she got one at all. It was different to all of the other photos. No aunt Cassie, or the curly haired man (one day she would get his name right), just Ray and…someone else. They seemed a little sad, but the strange man in the picture was silly.
“Do you know him?” She asked the cat, letting him sniff the picture.
“Come on Ray, answer your phone!” Cassie hissed under her breath as she pressed call. She had already texted a number of times, without receiving any responses. He should have returned from his training a couple of hours ago and she hadn’t heard any updates. This wasn’t like him at all. The call dropped out after only a single ring, but Cassie thought maybe he had just accidentally declined the call. It happened. Sometimes.
She sighed and started pacing, Spock getting up from his spot to follow, sensing something was up. Rather than risking tripping as the dog moved around her to get attention, Cassie soon sat down on the apartment floor instead so Spock could sit with her instead and petted him for a bit before trying to call again.
——-
Nothing.
The call cut out, same as before,
“Ugh, damn it. Whyyy?!” She groaned.
