Living With the Enemy || Mirium + Eric

If living on boats had given him one thing, it was the ability to sleep just about anywhere. When the winds picked up and took a ship with it across the water and the people inside were left to hear the waves crashing and the wood creaking without any pause of noise or motion those people learned how to ignore their surroundings in favor of rest. It was why he could sleep on the trains that had gotten him to this town or on the station benches as he waited for those trains.
The catch was, it had all been inside. Winters were harsh and without the help of the sun to warm the ground or his skin in the night Eric knew he needed to find somewhere to stay if he wasn’t going to fold to the prospects of returning home where he had a bed and blankets, and Max to crush him under his warmth and fur.
As if answering his pleas, a flyer whipped at him in the wind from where it was attached to a posting board. A request for a flatmate was written in bold, drawing him closer to read the information written in a smaller print. With a touch of frantic, Eric gathered a pen from his bag and wrote down the address on his palm along.
With no phone or computer to contact the person, and with nothing to lose, he ventured to the flat’s address. It took a bit of searching on his part, still very unfamiliar with where he was going in town, but some time later he stood at the door he hoped to be correct. It left only one more thing for him to do, so he reached up and knocked.
