[are you drunk was the prompt, i remember because i wrote it down]
15 + carick (& maybe 1 + this gay punk carol/andrea from your updates tab)
please forgive me (quotes you recognize are not mine) (i just did the carick one since it was the one that gave me inspiration) also warning: death. there is a death warning. character death warning even. do not read if you can’t handle character death. was that enough warning for the character death?
hi friend. i'm just here to tell you that if you want to talk about things i will listen. also, i'm writing a really long fic myself and i've been through a lot of emotional shit lately and i've found that destroying the characters lives and getting everything out in angst helps a lot but writing stupid wonderful fluff helps a lot as well. maybe ed and lori are both out of the picture and carol and rick are going to a pta meeting
“Youever been to one of these before?” Rick asked a woman who lookedcompletely out of place and lost. Rick hated PTA meetings but eversince the passing of his wife, he had to become more involved in hissons schooling, and that included these meetings.
Thewoman, short light gray hair and bright blue eyes that immediatelybore into Rick’s, turned to look at him and let out a light laugh.“Oh, no. Never.” She said, holding the cup of coffee in herhands. “I just moved to the district with my daughter and I thoughtthat since she’s new, it would be good if I showed up here.”
Ricknodded, he understood that. “Well, they’re not too… Exciting.Unless you’re into this stuff.”
“No,no. Definitely not.” The woman turned to him and flashed anothercarefree smile. “I’m Carol.”
Ricksmiled at him and held his hand out to her, shaking it when sheaccepted his hand. “I’m Rick.” He noticed when they shook handsthat she wasn’t wearing a wedding ring either. He hadn’t removed hiswedding ring completely, just moved it to another finger. He didn’twant to take it off.
“It’snice to meet you. Nice to see a friendly face at one of thesethings.” Carol said, looking around the place. Most of the womenthere were too involved with the school to even notice if someone wastalking to them.
“Yeah,I just show up to these things so people will stop asking when I’llshow up. Normally bring a book.” Rick said, reaching around to hisback pocket to pull out a book. The Road byCormac McCarthy, which was his favorite.
Carolleaned forward to look at the book, a smile forming on her face. “Ohmy God, I love this book.”
“It’smy favorite.” Rick said, watching as Carol took it from him andflipped through the book, admiring the notes that he made in thebook.
“It’sone of mine too.” Carol said, shutting the book and handing it backover to him. “I’m a total sucker for post apocalyptic things.Movies, books, whatever.”
“Myson and I spend whole weekends having movie marathons about it.”Rick shared.
“Iwish I could get my daughter to watch anything post apocalyptic. Myhus…” Carol trailed off. “My late husband was obsessed with …Survival stuff. Made her afraid of it.” There was something in theway Carol spoke that told Rick there was more to the story, but hedidn’t feel that he had the right to talk about it.
Rickreached behind his back to slip the book back in his pocket andturned to Carol, waiting a few moments before speaking. “Hey, youwanna.. Get out of here? Go get a coffee and talk more about postapocalyptic things?”
Carollooked up at him and a smile formed on her face, sitting and talkingwith this man about post apocalyptic movies and books sounded waybetter than sitting around listening to a PTA meeting. She glancedaround for a second before turning around to look at him. “Yeah, yeah. I’d love that.”
"Who did this to you." Carol and Rick
Ricklifted his head off his pillow when he heard the frantic knocking onhis door, letting out a soft groan. He'd fallen asleep on his couchwhile studying for an exam he had coming up at the police academy, book on his stomach, TV blaring, and all his lights still on. Hegroaned as the knocking continued and he sat up, moving to put thebook on his coffee table.
“Coming, coming.” Rick called out to the door as he stood to his feet andwalked over to his door. He reached his hand up and rubbed the backof his neck as he walked over to his front door. Rick yawned beforehe opened the door, stopping mid yawn as he saw a face he hadn't seenin a long time – a barely recognizable face. “Carol?”
Standingin front of him was his childhood friend, Carol Wilson. The last timehe had seen Carol was several years ago when they graduated highschool and she went off to college at Kentucky State. They kept intouch for a year after she had left, but suddenly all communicationfrom her had stopped.
Atleast he assumed it was Carol, he could barely tell. Her left eye wasswollen shut, there was a cut above her eyebrow, dried blood wasunder her nose, and her lip was swollen and cut. Her once long curlyhair had been buzzed off, recently by the look of it. She was farfrom the vibrant girl he once knew.
“Hi,Rick.” Carol said, looking up at Rick. Hearing her voice, it wasdefinitely her. Carol's voice trembled as she spoke, looking awayfrom the look of pity on her face. “I didn't have... I didn't haveanywhere else to go.”
“Comein, come in.” Rick urged, reaching an arm out gently to wrap an armaround her shoulder and lead her into his apartment. Rick lookedaround the area outside of his apartment, making sure there was noaround around before he pulled the door shut behind him.
Rickwatched Carol as she walked into his apartment, locking the doorbehind him. “Uh, go sit in my living room, I'll be right back.”Rick said. He went back to his bathroom where his first aid kid was, finding it underneath his sink. He wet a rag with warm water as wellbefore heading back into the living room where Carol had sat on thecouch, looking down at her lap.
Settingthe kit on top of his books, Rick opened it and picked up the rag. Hereached forward and lifted her chin up, making her look up at him ashe started to dab the blood off of her face.
“Whodid this to you?” He asked after most of the blood was gone. Carolstayed silent as Rick cleaned the blood off of her face. “Carol.Who did this to you?”
Carollooked up at Rick and looked away from him. “I got married twoweeks ago. At the courthouse. I thought he was... We got in a fightlast night and he... He snapped. I tried to leave this morningand...” She lifted her hand towards her nose.
Rickstared up at her, feeling an anger bubble in his stomach. He hadn'teven known that Carol was dating, none the less that someone hadactually caused her pain. Willingly and purposely caused he physicalpain. “It's broken.. I'm going to have to set it, unless you wantto go to the hospital.” Carol shook her head, she couldn't go tothe hospital. “This is gonna hurt..” Rick said before quickly andeasily setting it back in place. He had done it enough with Shaneduring their childhood.
Shecried out in pain as he set it back in place, which caused Rick tofeel horrible. “Sit back, sit back.” He said, sitting up on thecouch next to her.
Carolleaned back against Rick's couch as he sat next to her, turning tolook at him once the pain had subsided. “Hey, Rick.” She said.“It's nice to see you.”
Ricksnorted at Carol and wrapped his arms around his childhood friend, stroking the buzzed hair. He wouldn't let this happen to Carol again.
