Some old Halo fic I wrote three years ago
Sergeant Scheppler grunted as pain shot through his body. His opponent had hit him in his head causing a trickle of blood to drip onto his cargo pants. Shaken, Scheppler stumbled towards his opponent and threw a fist into his ribcage. A loud crack made him grin and he unleashed another, this time to the jaw. The other Sergeant was knocked back onto the floor. Scheppler proceeded to unleash a blizzard of punches that beat him into submission. A buzzer sounded, signaling the training drill to be over.
Scheppler helped Sergeant Gates up as medical personnel brought a stretcher for the defeated foe. Scheppler has earned the reputation for being one of the most competitive in the UNSC military. Some of the other C.O.’s had given him the nickname “Mitten” because of his excellent hand to hand skills. Ironically he prefers to use the sniper rifle in actual combat. He leads one of the best squads in the military, Sigma. Usually Schepp would be out with his squad but today he was ordered to train some of the new recruits. Beta Squad was unlucky enough. Since their C.O. wasn’t tough enough to lead, he decided to make an example of him.
“And that, Marines, is how you defeat an enemy in hand to hand combat,” the Sergeant shouted at the recruits. The horrified looks on their faces as Gates was rolled away was enough to satisfy Schepp for now.
“Private Leto you’re in charge,” bellowed Schepp, “go take you’re squad on tour.”
“Yes Sir!” shouted Leto as the rest of Beta looked relieved that they were actually being ordered to run from the Sergeant. As they started their march, a Pelican flew overhead and landed near the command center. Schepp flagged down a passing Warthog and went to go see what his squad has been up to.
