Jim should’ve stopped himself sooner - or stopped her sooner. Should’ve done something before it came to this. He found himself thinking maybe there wasn’t anything between them at all, and the friendly conversation mixed with the sudden onset of rain had just flicked a switch in the pair of them and made them feel like the right thing to do in that moment was huddle together… and then kiss. He’d returned it; Clara was a good…a very good friend, but dear God did he snap himself out of it as soon as rational thought had returned. “We can’t – Clara, I can’t–. We can’t do this. We really can’t.”
